Position: Global Trade Director International Demand

Employment Type:Permanent

Compensation Details:

  • Business Development 19: Salaries typically range from $112 006 to $149 341 annually based on qualifications and experiences plus a performance-based incentive.

Location:

  • Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week. (subject to change)
  • This role can be performed from EDCs headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto Mississauga Montreal Brossard Laval Calgary Edmonton Halifax Vancouver Quebec City Edmonton Windsor Kitchener Winnipeg Regina or Moncton.
  • Relocation assistance is available for candidates who meet the eligibility criteria.

Team Overview:

We are looking for experienced candidates to join our Business Development team to deliver on our mandate of creating trade opportunities for Canadian exporters and investors. In the role of the Global Trade Director you will leverage your extensive global professional network business development skills industry expertise and knowledge of Canadian capabilities and global supply chains to generate and nurture new export business opportunities for Canadian exporters and investors.

The Global Trade Director International Demand will work with a virtual team to establish and manage relationships with leading foreign buyers in selected markets assess their business challenges and procurement needs and introduce Canadian companies with relevant value propositions. The successful candidate will have exceptional business development skills an understanding of sector trends international procurement practices and of Canadian capabilities in the Agri-Food sector.

The ideal candidate will bring their strong influencing and relationship management skills to develop and nurture key relationships with international buyers and identify opportunities with them to facilitate the introduction of qualified Canadian suppliers. They will work in collaboration with sector experts to understand the value chains the relevant sectors and have knowledge of the Canadian ecosystem and supply chain.

They will apply that knowledge and their business developments capabilities to help Canadian companies take on the world.

What you will be doing:

  • Develop strategies and relationships to expand sales opportunities for Canadian exporters in foreign markets with targeted large/top tier foreign buyers and prospects by developing a deep understanding of their business challenges procurement needs and processes and matching them with Canadian capabilities.
  • Contribute to the development of account plans and engagement strategies to drive trade opportunities for Canadian companies with our foreign buyers.
  • Maintain and expand EDCs relationship network with large foreign buyers focusing on senior procurement influencers and decision makers;
  • Lead in all elements of creating trade opportunities including foreign buyer introductions to Canadian exporters supply chain assessment of foreign buyers matchmaking etc.;
  • Collaborate with EDC teams to assess the technical capabilities and competitiveness of Canadian companies.
  • Represent the voice of the foreign buyers or prospects with regards to procurement opportunities.
  • Establish and lead an internal and external virtual team including sector associations and government partners.
  • Work with various internal EDC teams to keep current on emerging Canadian technologies and capabilities and gather market intelligence in specified sector of expertise.
  • Identify opportunities for EDC to support and facilitate the underlying export trade for Canadian suppliers with other EDC financing and risk mitigation services.

What we are looking for:

  • Undergraduate Degree (or equivalent professional designation) in relevantdiscipline and/or Degree in Business Administration / Finance that has been coupled with the experience listed below
  • Minimum8 years of combined business development and/or technical advisory experience in the relevant sector/area of responsibility (Agri Food)
  • Advanced knowledge of best practices in sales and/or account management
  • Well-developed and deep global professional network and strong technical and business knowledge acquired through directly relevant business activity
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a matrix organization and lead virtual teams

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong communication skills in English and Spanish (written verbal presentation)
  • Negotiation skills (external and/or internal)
  • Deep sector knowledge in the Agri Food sector
  • Strong business development and sales experience (preferably international)
  • Strong relationship management and networking skills

What will make you stand out:

  • Working knowledge of French
