Sitter & Barfoot Veterans Care Center; named for two Medal of Honor recipients Colonel Van Barfoot and Colonel Carl Sitter provides the gold standard in quality care for Virginias Veterans. This single-level facility features 200 single-occupancy rooms across four nursing units: two 60-bed skilled nursing care units one 40-bed skilled nursing care unit and one 40-bed secure Alzheimers dementia unit.

Sitter & Barfoot Veterans Care Center is seeking a Cook. Working hours for this position will be 11:45 AM - 8:15 PM and will include every other weekend.

Primary Job Duties Include:
Prepare and serve food and meals in accordance with planned menus diet plans recipes proper use of portion control temperature procedures and facility policies
Review menus prior to tray line operation.
Review over produced foods and utilizes as alternates.
Assist in checking trays for menu and diet preferences and accuracy.
Ensure proper storage of foods and supplies.
Assist the Director of Nutrition Services and/or Nutrition Supervisors in directing the activities of Nutrition employees.
Direct and assist in cleaning and sanitizing work areas equipment floors dishes and utensils; follows all safety infection control and sanitation guidelines; completes cleaning assignments.
Attend and participates in training and in-service education; assists in departmental orientation and training of other staff.
Assist in promoting positive relationships with residents such as the Adopt a Veteran Program family members visitors and co-workers.
Perform other duties that may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma GED or Equivalent Required.
1 Year Prior Experience in a Kitchen/Culinary Setting Required.
Knowledge of food service operations.
Ability to to read write and communicate effectively with others including staff members and residents.
Possess the ability ability to carry-out the duties of the position with reasonable accommodations.
Ability to work overtime as needed to support the business/facility.

Additional Considerations

Three years experience working in institutional food preparation or related field and experience working in skilled-nursing facilities also preferred.
