Job Summary
Summary
Responsible for specialized nutrition intervention throughout the research process for studies conducted in the Translational & Clinical Research Centers (TCRC). Supports and participates in the interdisciplinary process of research protocol review implementation and outcome evaluation. Provides quality specialized nutrition care/services based on the approved research protocol patient needs and professional/unit standards. Trains nutrition students and may oversee nutrition research support staff. Participates in quality improvement activities. May contribute to scholarly research manuscripts and grant preparation unit and off unit committees. The position reports to the Director Metabolism & Nutrition Research Translational & Clinical Research Centers (TCRC).
Essential Functions
Reviews implements evaluates and revises the nutrition component of research protocols in collaboration with investigators and research team consistent with the goals of the research protocol general nutrition principles needs of the individual participants and governing policies and procedures. The nutrition component may require literature review contribution to study design and development of education materials data collection tools and research meals.
Conducts specialized nutrition research assessments including but not limited to indirect calorimetry body composition using dual energy x-ray absorptiometry bone mineral density anthropometric measurements modified exercise testing intensive nutrition counseling; designs specific weighed nutrient meal plan(s). Completes data collection and interpretation of nutrition related data consistent with standards for nutrition research and may participate in the publication and presentation of research findings.
Documents research nutrition data including participant understanding and compliance to the nutrition component of the research protocol.
Maintains strong and effective working relationship with co-workers including nutrition unit study staff. May serve on interdisciplinary multi-site committees.
May train and oversee support employees in standard procedures for nutrition research; supervises students per established objectives; and participates in orientation/continuing education of the research team.
Applies principles of growth and development over the life span; possesses the ability to assess participant data and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each participants requirements relative to his/her age specific needs.
Counsel educate and develop resources and materials for the education of patients on families on prescribed therapeutic diets
Partner with food service staff to ensure meals supplements and nutrition support is provided; review patients menu selections to monitor compliance with modified diets

Experience
Clinical Dietitian experience with multiple patient populations research experience preferred.
