Job Summary
The Research Nurse will participate in research activities conducted by the Adult Metabolic Diseases Clinic at Vancouver General Hospital and the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI). The incumbent will conduct a wide range of general Level III nursing activities that relate to clinical research. Activities will include but are not limited to: participant recruitment and informed consent coordination and communication related to participant study participation participant data extraction and collection and some clinical procedures within current nursing scope of practice.
Organizational Status
The Research Nurse accepts direction from and is ultimately accountable to Dr. Anna Lehman. This position requires a working relationship with other research staff of the Adult Metabolic Diseases Research Program and the VCHRI Clinical Research Unit. This position also requires close interaction with study participants.
Work Performed
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Duties are performed according to operating procedures CT protocols GCP guidelines Health Canada Division 5 regulations FDA CFR 51 regulations. Decisions are made for routine nursing duties. All non-routine decisions concerning eligibility are made in consultation with the investigator. Errors made could influence the ability of research staff to meet critical deadlines as well as compromise the results and ethical adherence of research projects and publications and therefore impact the credibility of the Investigator
Supervision Received
Minimal supervision/direction provided by the Principal Investigator. The incumbent will be expected to develop a work plan and timelines and exercise a considerable amount of judgement and initiative in duties and responsibilities
Supervision Given
May provide assistance to support staff and research assistants to ensure that project goals are met in a timely and efficient manner.
Minimum Qualifications
Registered Nurse with BCCNP plus a minimum of one year of nursing experience.
