Position Description

Position Information
This LVMPD position is housed in the Southern Nevada Counter Terrorism Center and performs a variety of analytical investigative technical administrative and research functions in support of the fusion centers mission.

Definition
Incumbents perform analysis of behaviors associated with criminal activity terrorism and targeted violence. Incumbents may be assigned to offsite locations periodically to support multi-agency efforts.


Distinguishing Characteristics
This position serves at the pleasure of the Sheriff and is not subject to the competitive requirements of the Civil Service Rules of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Minimum Qualifications/Position-Specific Conditions

Best Candidates Will Have

  • A Bachelors or Graduate degree from an accredited college in:
    • Homeland Security
    • Intelligence Analysis
    • International Relations
    • Political Science
    • Criminal Justice
    • Public Administration
    • Sociology
    • Psychology or
    • Any STEM field
  • More than three years of work experience including relationship and predictive intelligence analysis or completed college or post-graduate level course work and/or formal training by a federal state local fusion center or tribal governmental entity in:
    • Terrorism and homeland security
    • Criminal intelligence analysis
    • Cybersecurity and/or
    • Behavioral analysis
  • Strong research skills and the ability to gather pertinent information from various data sources to draft relevant and timely analytical products on threats impacting southern Nevada as well as regional and national levels.
  • A desire to continually learn and initiate new projects.
  • Strong reading comprehension critical thinking problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • The ability to write clear concise text.
  • Strong verbal presentation skills.
  • The ability to work and communicate effectively with department and fusion center members of all backgrounds as well as other public and private sector partners.
  • Awareness of homeland security threats international affairs and current events to include criminal threats and trends.
  • The ability to perform in a fast-paced dynamic work environment.
  • The ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Knowledge in using Microsoft Office applications such as Word Excel PowerPoint etc.
  • Training and/or experience using programs commonly used in analytical work.
  • A recent secret or top secret security clearance from a law enforcement national security or military entity at the federal level; or the necessary background to acquire such a clearance upon hire.


Conditions of Employment
In addition to the General Conditions of Employment found herethe following specific conditions of employment apply to this position:

  1. Must obtain a secret security clearance within the first year of employment.
  2. Must shift adjust as needed.
  3. Be a citizen/naturalized citizen or permanent resident alien without conditions on status of the United States of America by the closing date of the announcement.
  4. Be at least 18 years old by the closing date of the announcement.
  5. Participate in the LVMPD Mental Wellness Program.
  6. Personal Appearance:While on duty and/or representing the Department uniformed or otherwise all Department employees will be neat and clean in their appearance in public. Employees are prohibited from attaching affixing or displaying objects articles or jewelry on or through the nose tongue eyebrow or other exposed body part except the ears for females while on duty. Employees are prohibited from stretching or gauging their earlobes. All jewelry implants will not be exposed or visible while on duty. Tattoos or branding will not be exposed or visible while on duty and/or representing the Department. Such markings must be covered by clothing. Markings that cannot be covered by clothing will be covered using neutral-toned bandages or patches except for hands neck head or face tattoos.Makeup is not permissible to cover a tattoo. Tattoos or branding anywhere on the body that promote racism/discrimination indecency extremist or supremacist philosophies lawlessness violence or contain sexually explicit material are prohibited.

Additional Selection Processes
The selection process is anticipated to begin the week of February 24 2026.

If you successfully complete the above selection process you will undergo a thorough background investigation including a polygraph exam. A polygraph examination can be stressful and may affect existing medical or psychological conditions or ongoing treatment. Candidates are encouraged to consult with their personal physicians to discuss whether the polygraph will affect a condition or treatment and then follow the guidance of their medical professional.
