Job Summary

Description

Are you fascinated by the idea of operating with photons to show the newest prediction of physics Here is the opportunity for you to fulfil your dreams and ambitions!

Synthetic dimensions offer a paradigm-shifting approach to photonic systems enabling the study of high-dimensional lattices physics using low-dimensional photonic systems. Our research combining quantum physics and photonics marks a radical departure from the conventional approach to synthetic dimensions: the dynamics of the photon is driven not by physical coupling but by quantum measurement and real-time feedforward operations implemented via high-speed FPGA processing.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoc to join our cutting-edge research in synthetic dimensions. Within this position you will create the synthetic dimensions with the feedforward-based architecture and observe the dynamics of photons in time-frequency domain. The job is within the Villum Experiment project FENIX.

As part of your work you will be exploring exotic topological and non-Hermitian physics (of any geometric setting!) in a fiber optic platform.

The position will be hosted by the Section of Quantum Physics and Information Technology (QPIT) at the Department of Physics of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). We are a dynamic innovative and diverse research team focused on continuous-variable quantum optics. Our team is passionate about advancing the understanding of the physical world based on quantum photonics. We have a wide range of academic and industry collaborations e.g. as part of the EU Flagship on quantum technology and the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure.

Responsibilities and qualifications
We are looking for an exceptional physicist with extraordinary talents and outstanding particular we are looking for academic excellence and/or demonstrated scientific achievements. We also expect you to have a strong ability to conceive new ideas and construct high-performance experimental setups. Essential is your internal drive to achieve significant and ground-breaking results.

You will be working in an experimental project creating synthetic dimensions with fiber optics and a FPGA-based feedforward system and the research will interact closely with the quantum computing team. We expect you to be intrigued by the potential of using synthetic dimensions and quantum optics to explore the physical world. You enjoy finding clever solutions to difficult problems work together in a diverse team andtake initiative and leadership.

We require demonstrated expertise in experimental quantum optics and a Ph.D. in physics quantum information science optics or a related field. Expertise in the following areas is expected:

  • Strong experimental skills and solid theoretical understanding of quantum information
  • Quantum information processing quantum optics or related fields
  • Experience with python programming
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Experience in working with FPGA is preferred.

We offer a stimulating research environment with excellent opportunities for professional growth and development. The successful candidate will have access to state-of-the-art experimental facilities and resources to help them achieve their research goals.

As a formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

We offer
DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research education innovation and scientific advice. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment is 2 years. The starting date is1 April 2026 (or according to mutual agreement). The position is a full-time position.
