Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY:

Face to Face Health and Counseling is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing economic and health equityforyouth ages 1124. We do this work through a comprehensive approach that includeshousing mental health medical youth justice education & employment and community services.We take a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to our work and center the needs of young peopleimpactedby racism and other forms of oppression and marginalization.Founded in 1972 Face to Face serves more than 3000 youth annually.

The Day Shelter Cookposition is responsible for providingtwo meals a day forapproximately100 youthin theday shelterspaceto support youth to overcome homelessness.

This position is20hoursa week.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and execute all food service operations at SafeZone preparing/serving hot meals dailyand providing meals to go.
  • Manage kitchen inventory and create supply lists weekly for meals snack bags and food safety/serving/handling needs.
  • Procureand pick upfood and supplies from partner agenciesworking food rescue items into meals.
  • Plan prepare and serve mealsin accordance withMNDepartmentof Health Guidelines (will provide training for thisif aserve safecertificate is not alreadyacquired).
  • Maintain clean organized and tidy kitchenspace following recommended daily cleaning tasks.
  • Provide excellent customer service whileserving meals.
  • Engageyouth at the center in a meaningful and respectful manner whileassistingthem.
  • Respond to crises and de-escalate situations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Collect and recordappropriate datacompletepaperworkand stay current with monthlytrainings.
  • Refer youth to agencies for supportive services casemanagementand mental healthsupport.
  • Lead and work with volunteers on various kitchen tasks and during events.
  • Attend all staff meetingstrainings and events.
  • Provides all services guided by theevidence-based principles for helping youth overcomehomelessness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School degree or equivalentrequired.
  • Experience working in an industrial kitchenor in the food service industry.
  • Minimum of 2yearswork experience working with homeless orat-riskyouthpreferred.
  • Ability to work independently exercising good judgment in involving others when necessary.
  • Experience with a positive youth development and harm reduction approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High reliability and integrity.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to do what it takes to meet youth needs.
  • Good crisis management skills and the ability to navigate stressful situations well.
  • Knowledge of homelessness anditsimpactonyouth.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse ethnic economicracialand cultural backgrounds.
  • Reliable form of transportation for delivery and pickup of SafeZone supplies.
  • A valid drivers license and current automobile insurance arerequired.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

PAY &BENEFITS:

This is an hourly position at $23.00-$23.50an hour based on qualifications.

Face to Face offerspart-time employeesbenefitswhich include short-term disability long-term disability life insurance 403b account(3% employer match) generous PTOand11paid holidays.
