Job Summary

OCU Group have an amazing opportunity for a Trainee / Junior SHEQ Advisor to join the team in Borehamwood.

As a Trainee / Junior SHEQ Advisor you will support the development implementation and maintenance of the organisations Safety Health Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) management systems. The role is suitable for individuals either starting their SHEQ career or with some prior experience looking to progress into a more autonomous advisory position.

You will work closely with senior SHEQ professionals to gain practical experience in areas such as risk assessments audits site inspections incident investigations and safety training while supporting compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards. The role will include training mentoring and ongoing professional development to build competence and confidence in promoting a safe healthy and compliant working environment.

What you will need to be able to do the role successfully:

  • Participate in training and on-the-job learning to develop knowledge of safety health environmental and quality legislation standards and best practices.

  • Learn and progressively support the completion of risk assessments hazard identification and accident/incident investigations.

  • Assist in the development and delivery of SHEQ-related meetings toolbox talks and briefings for employees and contractors.

  • Support the organisation in achieving and maintaining compliance with relevant SHEQ legislation regulations and industry standards.

  • Assist with site inspections audits and monitoring activities to identify hazards unsafe acts and non-conformances.

  • Support the implementation and tracking of corrective and preventative actions arising from inspections audits and incidents.

  • Assist with the completion review and updating of risk assessments method statements and other SHEQ documentation.

  • Support the identification of suitable control measures to reduce risk and prevent accidents or incidents.

  • Contribute to ongoing reviews of risk controls to ensure they remain effective and appropriate.

  • Support the promotion of a positive safety culture across the organisation.

  • Assist in communicating SHEQ policies procedures and safe working practices to employees and contractors.

  • Participate in safety meetings briefings and initiatives aimed at improving safety performance and awareness.

  • Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date SHEQ records including risk assessments training records inspection findings and incident reports.

  • Support the preparation of reports dashboards and presentations to communicate SHEQ performance and initiatives to management and clients.

  • Assist in the review and analysis of SHEQ data and trends to help identify areas for improvement.

  • Clear and confident communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with colleagues contractors and clients at all levels.

  • Good organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach with a commitment to producing accurate and high-quality work.

  • Ability to work independently with guidance as well as collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Competent IT skills including the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word Excel Outlook PowerPoint
