This position will require working 3 weekends/month.
The Mental Health Therapists provides therapeutic services to patients from young adult through advanced adulthood. Services include provision of initial assessment individual family and group therapy. Works as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
Assesses patients need for non-medical services within the parameters of the treatment plan.
Provides individual family and group therapy.
Develops and maintains therapeutic relationships with patients in the individual family and group setting.
Coordinates the patients treatment with the multidisciplinary treatment team patients family referral source and aftercare provider. Makes appropriate discharge plans.
Records patient data in the medical record to include the psychosocial assessment group family and individual progress notes and discharge plans/appointments.
Works cooperatively with other members of the Clinical Programs Department and treatment team provides coverage and arranges coverage when needed.
Observes and documents data reflective of the patients status interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his or her age and specific needs and provides the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.
No supervisory responsibilities or duties. Orients new employees and may provide guidance to volunteers students support or contract staff. Erroneously exercised judgments regarding interpretations of compliant behavior may have negative effects on the organization (i.e. reimbursement human resources clinical pathways). Communication commonly occurs with internal and/or external entities to provide problem-solving consultation advising or interpretation services. Accesses enters and/or updates confidential information. Appropriately shares and makes decisions based on this information as a regular responsibility of the job. Provides input into budget and cost containment initiatives. Work is generally performed in an office environment and involves sitting standing or walking. Light effort is required to carry boxes office supplies or use light tools. May be exposed to infectious diseases bio-hazardous materials and combative patients. Varied and complex work is performed under general guidance in patient care environment and is often fast paced requiring use of prioritization skills. Work involves application of advanced knowledge and skills or patient care. Refers issues outside of scope to licensed professional. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development. Must provide own transportation and may be required to travel to other Carilion work sites to meet staffing needs.
Education: Masters in Social Work Counseling or related field required.
Experience: One to three years of related experience required.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal communication and teamwork skills required.
