As a Capitol Police Security Agent for the State of Maine - youre part ofour team tasked with the safety and security of Maines seat ofgovernment. Dedicated employees who monitor patrol and protect theState House Complex other designated facilities and the people whoenter. Primary responsibilities include:
- Monitors individuals who enter the State House or otherdesignated facilities in order ensure compliance with existingsecurity regulations and protocols.
- Operates screening equipment such as x-ray metal detectors andany other necessary equipment in order to ensure prohibited itemsare not carried into the facility.
- Searches individual possessions such as handbags briefcasesand backpacks in order to verify prohibited items are not broughtinto the facility.
- Searches rooms common spaces open areas and containers forweapons bombs or other suspicious devices or items in order toensure the security of the facility.
- Writes detailed reports of observed incidents; maintains electronicand manual logs; documents and seizes prohibited items untilreleased to a law enforcement officer.
- Provides information assistance direction and instructions tomembers of the public employees or groups when entering thefacility/complex in order to promote safety and order while in thefacility/complex.
- Responds to and assists law enforcement in routine andemergency situations.
- Monitors observes and checks buildings/grounds for anyirregularities; reports suspicious activity to appropriate authorities.
- Ensure issued equipment is functioning properly and routinemaintenance is performed according to set policy and/orguidelines.
- Stays informed on known or perceived threats against the StateState employees Legislators or others who frequent StateFacilities.
Skills or knowledge required:
- Knowledge of general security screening methodology tools andtechnology used for screening/security
- Knowledge of concealment methods search techniques anddetection methods
- Ability to maintain training proficiencies necessary to meet thedemands of operational screening needs
- Ability to impartially engage with diverse groups of people of allages
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Ability to learn and operate applicable computer programs.
- Possession of a valid drivers license
- Flexible scheduling to include some evening weekend andholiday hours as may be required.
Minimum qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent and at least two (2) years of security work or related experience and no criminal or extensive motor vehicle record.
