Description of Work

We are currently recruiting for Clinical Social Workers at Central Regional Hospital (CRH) on the Community Transition Unit (CTU) and the Acute Adult Unit (AAU). The Clinical Social Worker is responsible for providing clinical case management services to clients in an inpatient psychiatric setting. There is also the opportunity to provide individual and family clinical interventions and psychoeducation along with the possibility of doing groups.

Salary Grade Range: $50633.00 - $88607.00

A Sign-on bonus of $5000 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting contingent on the 2025-2026 Budget Approval.

Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.

The Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Knowledge of social work principles techniques and practices and their application to complex problems associated with adult psychiatric treatment
  • Knowledge of a wide range of behavioral and psychosocial problems and their treatment
  • Knowledge of individual family and group dynamics
  • Knowledge of the laws regulations and policies associated with adult psychiatric treatment
  • Skill is needed in establishing rapport with clients and in applying techniques of assessing psychosocial behavioral and psychological aspects of clients problems

This position is Exempt from certain provisions of The State Human Resources Act (GS 126)

This position is designated as mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

We will be recruiting for multiple positions with this post. Your application will be considered for all noted open positions.

Working hours:

Day 8:00am - 5:00pm

*Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus*

To qualify for the Sign-on Bonus a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate.


An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

  • The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government including the judicial system or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date)

  • The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency

  • DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.

Social Work Unit Descriptions

Community Transition Unit (CTU):
CTU provides state-of-the-art assessment diagnosis treatment and rehabilitation for patients with severe chronic or treatment-resistant psychiatric illnesses. These patients require more comprehensive and extended services to return to the community with a reduced risk of relapse and readmission.

Acute Adult Unit (AAU):
AAU provides admission treatment and discharge services to patients admitted to the hospital between the ages of 18 and 64 years old. It is the primary admission portal for adults with acute or chronic psychiatric illness.
