The NC Department of Administration is the business manager for North Carolina state government. The department oversees Government Operations such as building construction purchasing and contracting for goods and services maintaining facilities managing state vehicles acquiring and disposing of real property and operating auxiliary services such as courier mail delivery and the sale of state and federal surplus property. Additionally the department manages many of the states advocacy programs that provide assistance and services to diverse segments of the states population that have been traditionally underserved.

Job Duties: The State Construction Office oversees the planning design and construction of verticalconstruction (building) projects for State Agencies Universities and Community Colleges. The Intern will be assigned toone or both of the following sections: The Construction Management group which administers construction contracts;the Facilities Conditions & Assessment Program (FCAP) which evaluates the repair and renovation needs of all State
buildings greater than 3000 square feet.
Major Task to be Performed: Depending on preference and background the intern will perform one or both of thefollowing: Assist the Wake County construction monitor by attending job site meetings inspection of active constructionprojects advising contractors and designers and overseeing building acceptance; Assist the FCAP group with existingbuilding assessments in the field cost estimating exercises and deficiency reports.
Final Product or Outcome Anticipated: The successful delivery of construction projects and/or building exposure to the public construction process in North Carolina.
Academic Majors Desired: : Engineering / ConstructionManagement / Architecture
2026 State of North Carolina Internship Period: Monday May 18 Friday July 24 2026
A general understanding of building systems such as architectural structural
mechanical electrical plumbing or fire protection. Familiarity with NC Building Codes preferred but not required.
This position will close at 11:59 p.m. the night before the end date.
