The Project Manager GCF Funding Proposal Development is responsible for project management and coordination of the development of a Funding Proposal to the Green Climate Fund (GCF) for the project titled Climate Resilient Enduring Earth for Botswana and Guatemala (CREE-BG). The Project Manager is part of TNCs Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) team within the Global Protect Oceans Lands and Waters program and will report to the Project Lead.
The GCF has recently approved Project Preparation Facility (PPF) funding to TNC (as the Accredited Entity) to develop a Funding Proposal for the CREE-BG project. CREE-BG will promote integrated and climate-resilient management of Protected and Conserved Areas (PCAs) and adjacent landscapes in Botswana and Guatemala through a paradigm shift in financing governance and livelihood approaches. The project will be developed and implemented in close coordination with national agencies responsible for protected areas environment forestry climate change community development and finance alongside local governments civil society and Indigenous organizations community-based organizations local communities non-governmental organizations and private sector actors.
The Project Manager will be responsible for managing and executing TNCs PPF workplan and budget to support the successful development and submission of the CREE-BG Funding Proposal package to the GCF. This involves coordination across TNC teams executing entities implementing partners government agencies consultants and other stakeholders necessary for completion of the Funding Proposal including feasibility studies gender analysis environmental and social safeguards institutional arrangements detailed budget development and other PPF activities. The Project Manager will also be responsible for helping the team to ensure TNC and GCF requirements and standards are met for all deliverables.
This is a 15-month term-limited position contingent on TNC and GCF signing a PPF grant agreement with the possibility of an extension. The preferred start date for this position would be February 2nd 2026. This is a remote position and location is flexible within countries where TNC is a registered NGO with an established office. No relocation or immigration assistance is offered with this position. This position requires working significantly across multiple time zones and may require travel of 30% or more.

The Project Manager will bring a collaborative approach to GCF Funding Proposal development building strong partnerships and a continuous learning environment. They will coordinate with the Project Lead TNC teams partners and other stakeholders to ensure the Funding Proposal team meets stated targets on time and on budget. The Project Manager will support the team in maintaining strong relationships with partners governments private sector and other stakeholders. They will have a strong understanding of project development for large public funding projects (ideally over USD 20 million) including GCF requirements and standards.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Lead project management and coordination on behalf of TNC in the development of the Funding Proposal by developing and maintaining PPF workplan and detailed task schedule
Organize and manage coordination and communication processes for Funding Proposal development including weekly team calls consultant check-ins working groups management writing sessions review of deliverables feedback consolidation TNC internal approvals and other processes as needed.
Manage the Funding Proposal workplan to support global and national technical leads with completion of all Funding Proposal sections and annexes on time and on budget.
With oversight from Project Lead and in collaboration with Finance & Operations team members at both country and global level manage project budget prepare forecasts as needed advise on coding and monitor co-finance contributions.
Coordinate with TNC technical teams partners and consultants to ensure necessary consultations and meetings are organized with government communities and other partners.
Coordinate with TNC technical teams partners and consultants to support the provision of local information as needed and available such as reports and data sources for development of the Funding Proposal and annexes (e.g. feasibility studies market and investment analysis etc.).
Coordinate with TNC technical and operational teams to support completion of necessary due diligence for project Executing Entities and implementing partners following all GCF and TNC requirements.
Support management of consultant contracts including preparing terms of reference monitoring progress on deliverables coordinating payments and managing any adjustments as necessary.
Organize and maintain all documents related to Funding Proposal development in a centralized document repository including for collaboration file sharing and record keeping.
Other duties as assigned by the Project Lead for the success of the funding proposal development.
Bachelors degree in a related field and 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination.
Experience managing and coordinating complex projects with multidisciplinary teams and partners.
Experience developing large public funding projects (over USD 10 million).
Multi-cultural or cross-cultural facilitation experience
Working proficiency in English and Spanish.
Ability to work across multiple time zones including Botswana Guatemala and Washington DC.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with GCF project development preferred; candidates with multilateral/bilateral climate finance experience (e.g. GEF Adaptation Fund World Bank) will be strongly considered
Experience with climate conservation practice natural resource management or related field.
Familiarity with project country contexts including climate conditions and risks related policies and key stakeholders.
Experience managing complex budgets and vendor contracts.
Excellent organizational communication synthesis and proofreading skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other related technology to achieve desired results.
Candidates located in or near Botswana or Guatemala preferred.

For U.S. based applicants only the starting pay range for this position is generally within the range of $75000 $100000 for annual base salary and is based on location qualifications specific skills and experience. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. For all other applicants pay ranges will be in local currency the pay range will be based on the local labor market and not tied to the above pay range.
