Role Overview
We need a capable and enthusiastic adviser to support the UK Finance M&BD Managers and BD and marketing activities for the Finance practice areas within our Corporate & Finance group. This will include working with our Banking Restructuring and Special Situations (RSS) Capital Markets and Infrastructure Energy Resources and Projects (IERP) practices a broad remit across some fast-paced and exciting areas of law.
This is a global role with a particular focus on the UK and encompass the full range of business development and marketing activities including: pitching credentials and other marketing collateral; client/sector and competitor analysis; client targeting and cross-selling; profile raising and marketing campaigns including communications such as directory submissions deal reporting online content (intranet newsletters and ) and BD evaluation and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Specific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure staff location or services. All members of the firm participate in our Responsible
Business program.
Pitches and credentials
Coordinate pitches and help partners and teams prepare for presentations including writing domestic and cross-border pitches proposals and credentials whilst ensuring the best practice pitch approach is applied.
Write and produce other bespoke materials including client presentations and standard marketing materials for the Finance practices.
Collate and maintain information on the firm wide Global Pitch system and Experience Management system (Foundation); monitor success rates and make recommendations for improvements.
Undertake and maintain post pitch feedback where appropriate.
Client targeting and development
Supporting the Finance practices on client relationship management initiatives including developing client plans and ensuring the core teams deliver on key objectives and priorities and ensuring client reporting requirements are met.
Supporting on client targeting initiatives and analysis and monitoring and analysing financial performance.
Ensuring that client relationship management principles and best practice are adopted working with other M&BD and client relationship management colleagues as required.
Conducting client listening (post-matter reviews client service reviews and post-pitch debriefs) for key clients.
Supporting the monitoring of annual M&BD budgets and expenditure for marketing activities.
Infrastructure and marketing systems
Collate and maintain deal information pitches/proposals credentials intranet/web content etc. including use of our Experience Management system (Foundation).
Maintain and regularly analyse key M&BD information systems and library of materials centrally including the pitch tracker intranet and Finance hub.
Liaise and work closely with the Professional Support Lawyers to leverage know how and identify appropriate communications and M&BD opportunities through our knowledge and thought leadership platform Our Thinking.
Encourage full and effective use of the firms CRM database (InterAction).
Profile raising and marketing campaigns
Co-ordinate client events/seminars/webinars in conjunction with the Events team and Professional Support Lawyers acting as an Account Coordinator for internal clients including full and effective use of the firms event email marketing system (iPublish).
Identifying external practice and industry as well as internal firm events in which the Finance practice lawyers could participate to support their client and business development objectives.
Draft review and update relevant Finance practice area entries in directories and award submissions.
Managing social media posts and monitoring performance and engagement data (LinkedIn Twitter ClearView Social).
Support in the production of other internal and external marketing communications including capability statements presentations brochures internal and external alerts newsletters and web copy.
Liaise and collaborate with other M&BD teams including Practice Groups Industry Sectors and PR to cross-sell capabilities and credentials including proactively coordinating with PR to raise the profile of individual partners and propositions.
Support the Finance practices in thought leadership campaigns including liaising with design agencies and drafting and publishing content.
Wider BD initiatives
Contribute to wider M&BD efforts which will include participating in specific firm-wide M&BD initiatives events and projects as required.
Deal with ad-hoc enquiries about the Finance practice areas or its clients from other parts of the firm or members of the M&BD team.
Any other tasks that may reasonably be required.
Qualifications Skills & Experience
Essential
At least three years of relevant experience.
Previous working experience in a business development/marketing environment.
Experience in pitching and managing the pitch process.
A solid understanding of the commercial world and its drivers.
A solid understanding of marketing and business development processes.
A keen interest in self-development and able to demonstrate a high level of initiative.
A proactive team player with a can do attitude.
Ability to create a positive impact with colleagues peers partners and clients and to demonstrate diplomacy listening and influencing skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen eye for detail and the ability to write in a compelling way.
Effective project management skills including the ability to plan ahead and prioritise conflicting demands to meet deadlines for the team.
Ability to work effectively under pressure.
An understanding of the firms business and marketplace.
Experience of and comfortable in a partnership or equivalent professional services environment.
Desired
A relevant marketing qualification such as the CIM or equivalent post-graduate management qualification would be advantageous.
Prior knowledge and experience of working in a Finance practice role would be advantageous.
A general understanding of the legal market/Financial Institutions (in terms of key players and product areas) to aid familiarity with terminology and to add as much value as possible when talking with partners.
