Main Purpose of Job
The substitute secretary supports the school office by providing clerical and administrative assistance in the absence of the regular secretary. This position ensures continuity of school operations by greeting and assisting visitors managing communications and performing essential office tasks assigned by the administrator. Candidates must comply with and support MSDs regulations and policies. Substitute secretaries need to be available on an on-call basis.
POSITION DUTIES
Thesubstitute secretary serves as the first point of contact for students stafffamilies and visitors by greeting guests answering calls and directinginquiries to the appropriate people. This position is responsible forsupporting the offices daily operations. Duties include maintainingsign-in/sign-out logs and following school procedures for visitor managementand student dismissals or late arrivals; assisting with attendance reporting anddaily announcements; supporting emergency drills and responses; and providingclerical support with basic office tasks. This position requires maintainingstrict confidentiality of student and school personnel information and may beasked to assume other duties as assigned by the administrator or the CampusChief Educational Programs Officer.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School diploma or equivalent (GED) in English and American Sign Language required.
Experience: Two yearsperforming office secretarial type or clerical work involving typing duties.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledgeof Deaf Community preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
New hires are subject to a criminal backgroundinvestigation at their own expense. (Maryland Code Family Law Article 1Sections)

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage accidental death and dismemberment insurance and life insurance but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
