Job Summary

Mission Brief

Within our team of Composite Production Engineers you will be responsible for the development implementation and optimization of manufacturing processes that produce advanced carbon composite structures for our Spectrum launch vehicle including components such as pressure tanks payload fairing and interstage. This is achieved by drawing on your solid background in composite manufacturing methods and hands-on industry experience. You will collaborate closely with internal teams - such as Production Design Quality Procurement and Planning - as well as with external suppliers to ensure our processes deliver the highest standards of quality efficiency and reliability.

Your Role in Our Space Mission:

  • Process Design and Optimization to efficiently produce high-quality carbon composite parts. This involves selecting appropriate materials methods and equipment.
  • Quality Control by monitoring to ensure we meet stringent specifications and industrial standards
  • Tooling and Equipment Management by designing and maintaining Molds fixtures and equipment used in the production process. This includes ensuring the machinery is properly calibrated and maintained
  • Cost Management by analyzing and managing production costs including material costs Labor and overhead to improve cost efficiency without compromising quality
  • Troubleshooting by identifying and resolving production issues such as defects or process inefficiencies to ensure smooth and continuous operation
  • Research and Development by staying updated on new materials technologies and techniques in carbon composite production to continuously improve processes and products considering opportunities to implement automation
  • Documentation and reporting by maintaining detailed records of production processes outcomes and any issues that arise as well as preparing reports for management and stakeholders
  • Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors

Qualification Checklist

  • BSc/MSc in an engineering discipline
  • 3 years of relevant hands-on experience in composite manufacturing
  • Proficient with composite manufacturing methods (e.g. layup autoclave sandwich structures filament winding etc.)
  • Knowledge of LEAN production systems and continuous improvement methods
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Results orientated with ability to plan and deliver against project deadlines
  • Resilient self-motivated and able to work well under pressure
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken) German is a Plus

Bonus Skills

  • Experience in automated processes such as Filament Winding or Automated Fibre Placement technology (AFP)
  • Experience in structural bonding processes
