Join the Louisiana Department of Healths Office of Public Health in Region 5 and take on a dynamic leadership role supporting Parish Public Health Units across the region. As a Float Lead Nurse youll help direct plan and implement vital nursing services while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to strengthen community health. This role offers the opportunity to lead with purpose promote excellence in public health nursing and make a meaningful difference in the lives of Louisiana residentsall while practicing at the top of your license under the Louisiana Nurse Practice Act.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse plus one of the following:

Two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A bachelors degree in nursing plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A masters degree in nursing or public health plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A doctorate in nursing or public health.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

Utilizes the nursing process of assessment planning implementation and evaluation to provide professional nursing care in accordance with the Louisiana Nurse Practice Act OPH policies and program protocols.

Conducts comprehensive nursing assessments and delivers services across multiple public health programs (including MCH STD RH CYSHCN Immunizations WIC Chronic Disease Infectious Diseases and TB) in clinics communities shelters homes and other assigned sites including high-risk environments.

Interviews patients and caregivers obtains and records medical histories vital signs measurements and clinical findings; assists physicians or advanced practice nurses with examinations; and evaluates outcomes of public health interventions.

Serves as an STD Nurse by performing syndromic assessment and treatment according to LDH/OPH Standing Orders; participates in TB services including medication administration monitoring home and hospital visits and providing Directly Observed Therapy (DOT).

Obtains blood and other specimens interprets laboratory results provides quality control counseling treatment follow-up and referrals as needed; ensures compliance with CLIA and OSHA standards and audits patient records in the Electronic Health Record.

Administers and distributes medications vaccines birth control methods and age-appropriate immunizations; provides patient education on medications side effects adverse reactions and care or referral; and enters immunization data into LINKS.

Provides health education to at-risk communities participates in COVID-19 testing vaccination investigations and infection control activities supports emergency response efforts collaborates in child abuse cases and serves as a public health nursing resource.
