Strides Therapy & Educational Services is a leading local provider of contract therapy and educational services dedicated to enhancing the educational experience of students in schools across Maryland. We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Sign Language Interpreter to join our team. The interpreter will facilitate communication between Deaf/hard-of-hearing students and their peers teachers and staff ensuring equal access to education. This role requires fluency in ASL cultural competency and a commitment to student success.
Position Overview:
As a Sign Language Interpreter at Strides Therapy & Educational Services you will play a vital role in bridging communication gaps for students in educational settings across Maryland. Collaborating with educators and therapists youll provide accurate interpretation to support academic and social growth while promoting Deaf culture awareness.
Additional Details: must be a certified language interpreter as of 1/26
Key Responsibilities:
Interpretation Services: Provide ASL/English interpretation in classrooms assemblies and school activities adapting to students communication preferences (ASL PSE etc.).
Collaboration: Work with teachers special educators and IEP teams to ensure accessibility and student success.
Advocacy: Promote understanding of Deaf culture and accessibility needs within the school community.
Confidentiality: Maintain professionalism and adhere to ethical standards in all interpreting settings.
Progress Support: Assist in monitoring student engagement and communication access adjusting strategies as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associates degree/Bachelors degree preferred
Certification: EIPA 3.5 RID certification or Maryland state-equivalent credential required.
Experience: School-based or pediatric interpreting preferred.
Skills: Fluency in ASL knowledge of Deaf culture and ability to work flexibly in K-12 environments.
