Description of Work

About the Gauge Maintenance Technician Position:
The primary purpose of the Gauge Maintenance Technician is to perform maintenance and inspections of gauges and weather sensors repair damaged equipment and document in reports the results of all field activity in appropriate software. The selected candidate will work with NCDOT to identify new locations for gauges/sensors and provide a report to NCDOT with information needed for gauge interoperability with geospatial systems including Bridge Watch and FIMAN-T. This position will also conduct post-storm site visits and perform high water data collection and assist survey crew; and establish benchmarks at gauge locations.

About Hazard Mitigation:
The primary mission of the Hazard Mitigation Section (HM) is to deliver and support mitigation activities across the State of North Carolina as guided and authorized under NC General Statute 166A the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act and other guiding pieces of legislation. The section completes its mission by developing mitigation action plans at the State and local level managing and implementing grants provided by FEMA for protection of NC residents and their property; acquiring managing and disseminating geospatial data and flood water information; and managing the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) for the State.

About NCEM:
The primary purpose of North Carolina Emergency Management (NCEM) is to enhance North Carolinas resiliency through active collaboration communication and coordination of efficient and effective preparedness response recovery and mitigation of all natural and man-made hazards and threats. It is part of the NC Department of Public Safety (NCDPS).

$39671.00 - $69426.00

DPS uses the Merit-Based Recruitment and Selection Plan to fill positions subject to the State Human Resources Act with the most qualified individuals. The Minimum Education and Experience (E&E) is REQUIRED to qualify for this position. Management Preferences including Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs) are not required but may be used to determine the pool of most qualified applicants. Associates degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
