The pre-anesthesia preparation unit is a fast-paced department aimed at focusing on quality presurgical care that fosters patient safety and successful surgical outcomes. We are a 25-bed unit located on 4 South and 4 East serving the main OR endoscopy and other procedural areas. The preoperative phase of care includes a patient assessment a physical preparation of the patient through performing labs diagnostic studies and other care items such as IV insertion and medication administration a psychological preparation of the patient to reduce anxiety associated with having surgery and patient teaching. Communication and interdisciplinary teamwork serve as a essential link to ensuring safe and quality patient care.
This position is full time working the day shift with occasional weekends and rotating holidays
Welcomes and assists patients and visitors with registration.
May assist with patient admissions transfers and discharges.
Coordinates patient flow into/out of area using department/unit specific software and Intranet. Schedules patient therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
May review medical records for outstanding orders and notifies nurse of stat orders and medication changes.
Cleans unit-based equipment and gathers supplies needed to operate equipment between patients as needed.
Transports patients supplies specimens and equipment within the facility.
May assist with chart audits.
May perform unit-based patient care tasks for patients.
May participate in the sitter process
Interacts with patients visitors physicians and other health professionals.
Answers incoming calls via telephone and patient call system. Routes calls as needed and takes messages.
Provides scheduling coverage support for department/unit staff scheduling including back up coverage.
Operates and maintains general office equipment. Orders department/unit supplies and equipment and stocks/organizes supplies.
Serves as a resource for department/unit software system.
Monitors cleanliness of waiting and break rooms and performs safety/environmental rounds.
Assists with maintaining regulatory compliance in unit.
Please note -
employee must attend mandatory orientation classes during daytime hours Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm for the first 2 weeks of employment. All classes require to be in person except for 2 online classes.
Education: High school graduate or GED.
Experience: none
Licensure certification and/or registration: none unless the following:
Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal communication and team-working skills. Must be organized and self -motivated. Must have knowledge of office procedure and equipment.
