The Position
The Electrical Systems Subject Matter Expert (SME) Mission-Critical serves as the owners on-site technical authority for electrical systems supporting a High-Performance Compute Center (HPCC) and associated on-site power generation infrastructure.
This role is part of a team of Electrical SMEs assigned to rotating shifts providing continuous expert electrical oversight 24/7/365. Each SME works alongside contracted Critical Infrastructure Operators Mechanical Systems SMEs Hybrid Space (Liquid Cooling) SMEs and Energy Station SMEs delivering real-time technical guidance operational oversight and training.
Electrical SMEs are fully qualified to operate maintain and troubleshoot all major electrical systems within scope and are expected to lead by example in safety reliability procedural discipline and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
On-Shift Electrical Authority
-
Serve as the on-shift electrical authority for power distribution UPS generator and switchgear operations within the HPCC.

Coordinate closely with contracted operator teams to ensure safe reliable operation across data center compute and power-generation environments.
-
Provide technical leadership during switching energization restoration and abnormal operating conditions.
-
Act as the on-shift authority for Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) energized work permitting and arc-flash PPE compliance.
Electrical Operations & Troubleshooting
-
Monitor electrical system health identify anomalies and initiate or direct corrective actions.
-
Maintain detailed knowledge of site single-line diagrams system interdependencies and protection schemes.
-
Troubleshoot electrical faults alarms and system abnormalities in coordination with Controls Mechanical and other cross-functional teams.
-
Participate in root-cause analyses following electrical events or system disruptions.
Commissioning Procedures & Documentation
-
Support commissioning acceptance testing and equipment start-up activities.
-
Participate in the development review and refinement of operating procedures switching plans and LOTO documentation.
-
Ensure accurate shift logs equipment status updates and event documentation are maintained.
-
Identify procedural gaps or improvement opportunities and escalate recommendations to Electrical Operations leadership.

Contribute to lessons-learned documentation following system events or deviations.
Training Mentorship & Safety Culture

Mentor and train contracted operators and maintenance personnel in electrical safety system operation and procedural execution.

Support qualification programs skills assessments and ongoing competency validation for electrical operators.
-
Enforce adherence to electrical safety standards including NFPA 70 NFPA 70E OSHA and owner-specific EHS requirements.

Promote a strong culture of safety accountability and procedural discipline across all shifts.
Cross-Functional Coordination

Act as the primary electrical liaison between Critical Infrastructure Compute Infrastructure and Energy Station teams.

Ensure clear communication of electrical system status during shift handovers and operational transitions.
-
Support integrated operations across electrical mechanical controls and power-generation systems.
Success Measures

Zero electrical safety incidents or procedural violations.

Consistent stable electrical system performance supporting HPCC uptime requirements.

High-quality operational execution during switching maintenance and incident response.
-
Strong operator competency demonstrated through training outcomes and operational performance.

Recognition as a trusted on-shift electrical authority within HPCC Operations.
Requirements

Associate or Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Electrical Technology or a related field; or equivalent experience.
-
Minimum 8 years of experience working with medium- and low-voltage electrical systems in data centers industrial facilities or power-generation environments.
-
Demonstrated expertise with switchgear UPS systems generators protective relays and power distribution systems.
-
Proven ability to mentor and train operators or technicians in safe electrical practices and operational procedures.
-
Strong working knowledge of NFPA 70 NFPA 70E OSHA and industry best practices for mission-critical electrical environments.

Ability to interpret complex electrical schematics single-line diagrams and control logic.
-
Strong communication skills and situational awareness in high-pressure live operational environments.
