Tekberry is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer III to support our client s Plant Engineering organization at its Hickory NC manufacturing facility. This role will serve as a key mechanical engineering resource focused on designing improving and integrating fiber optic cable manufacturing equipment.

Responsibilities

Mechanical Design & Engineering Support

  • Design tooling fixtures and mechanical assemblies using Inventor and AutoCAD.
  • Generate revise and maintain mechanical drawings in accordance with drafting standards and GD&T requirements.
  • Develop and execute experimental plans to validate new or modified designs.
  • Debug troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues during equipment integration into production environments.

Manufacturing Equipment Support

  • Provide hands-on or oversight support for system assembly and installation.
  • Support repair maintenance and improvement of manufacturing equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical systems including pneumatic controls flow control systems and water cooling systems.

Project & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with process electrical IT and manufacturing teams to ensure designs meet operational requirements.
  • Coordinate with machine shops and external vendors to obtain quotes and procure components.
  • Manage and support mechanics and electricians during equipment assembly and installation activities.

Documentation & Training

  • Update equipment documentation drawings and work instructions as required.
  • Support operational training related to new or modified equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with plant policies procedures and safety standards.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent engineering experience.

Experience

  • 3 years of experience in mechanical engineering roles supporting manufacturing or industrial equipment.
  • Experience with mechanical system design integration and troubleshooting in a production environment.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Inventor (or similar 3D CAD software) Vault and AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding and application of GD&T and drafting standards.
  • Experience working with machine shops and vendors for part fabrication and procurement.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting mechanical systems (pneumatics cooling systems flow control).
  • Experience with manufacturing equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Experience leading or coordinating mechanics and electricians during equipment builds or installations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with plastic extrusion manufacturing.
  • Electrical system troubleshooting experience (low- and medium-voltage systems motion control PLCs temperature control systems).
  • Working knowledge of data analysis tools such as Microsoft Excel PI and/or Power BI.
  • Familiarity with plant engineering environments in regulated or safety-critical manufacturing settings.
