Summary
The NYC Community & Government Relations Team within the Power Authority is dedicated to fostering and sustaining positive relationships with various stakeholders including local state and federal elected officials regulatory bodies community and environmental groups and business and economic development entities. The ultimate goal is to enhance the Power Authoritys reputation and ensure benefits for all residents of New York.
They conduct outreach to both internal groups within the Power Authority and external entities communicating and sharing relevant information with these groups. They brief other NYPA business units and executive staff on pertinent issues and developments. They develop and implement initiatives that align with the Power Authoritys goals and actively participate with other NYPA business units to formulate further actions and strategies.
They coordinate and participate in community outreach efforts promoting a positive and community-centered presence within the organization. They plan and execute projects aimed at improving the economic social and/or environmental quality of life in various communities. Additionally they develop and maintain relationships with local business groups community representatives elected officials and other stakeholders. The overarching aim of these efforts is to ensure the Power Authority operates in a way that benefits the broader community reflecting its commitment to economic social and environmental well-being. #LI-CJ1
Responsibilities
- Manage all NYPA community throughout assigned region to further NYPAs goals projects and mission
- Represent NYPA in various community organizations to drive policy that benefits NYPA and our customers
- Share any NYPA related news immediately and be prepared to handle regional crises and create an emergency notification system to notify local state and federal officials through all means necessary
- Collaborate with multiple internal business units to be responsive and maintain a positive brand
- Manage community relations team at assigned region
- Set goals and objectives for team members for achievement of operational results. Complete performance reviews salary administration succession planning and resource balancing.
NYC Community Relations:
- Manage and oversee all NYPA community programs throughout NYC to further NYPAs goals projects and mission
- Cultivate productive relationships with elected officials business leaders and civic groups to hear their concerns keep them apprised of NYPAs initiatives and leverage company goals
- Collaborate with multiple internal business units to ensure responsiveness and maintain a positive brand
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Strong management decision-making organization interpersonal and communication skills
- Advanced knowledge and skills within a specific discipline with understanding of how work impacts other Teams
- Strong relationship development skills to work with multiple levels of internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain current knowledge of energy and environmental topics in energy efficiency energy services transmission climate change renewable generation and energy market and how it may affect the organization
- Broad understanding of the changing regulatory environment in which NYPA operates and knowledgeable in licensing and relicensing procedures preferred
Education Experience and Certifications
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience required
- 5 or more years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education training and experience
- 2 years experience in a supervisory or team lead capacity or related experience
- Experience in project management
- Utility or energy experience preferred
- Valid U.S. drivers license
Physical Requirements
Up to 25% travel within NY State
