Job Summary

Kairos Power isseekinga highly motivated Reliability Engineering internto execute hazard evaluations supporting the design build and operation of near-term nuclear and non-nuclear hardware demonstration projects. The Reliability Engineering intern will work in close consultation with mechanical electricalinstrumentation and controls (I&C) testing manufacturing operations and licensing engineering staff to collect operating experience from the Kairos development program implement reliability strategies and to conduct hazard evaluations such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis(FMEA)and Fault Tree Analysis(FTA). In this role you will contribute to the technology development programs for the demonstration and commercialization of Kairos Power reactors.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of strategies for achieving plant system andcomponentreliability using failure modes and effects analysis what-if analysis fault tree analysis and other methods asappropriate.
  • Track implementation of reliability strategies for Kairos projects including non-nuclear demonstrations nuclear demonstrations salt production and fuel manufacturing.
  • AssistsKairos hardware technology development by capturing anddisseminatingoperating experience.
  • Supportscontinuous improvement efforts that improve automation of analysis and documentation work products.
  • Other duties as assigned which may include hands-on assignments with hardware fabrication assembly commissioning and operation.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled and pursuing aBachelorsor Mastersdegree in Nuclear Engineering ReliabilityEngineering MechanicalEngineering MaterialsEngineering Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience with data analysis/automation and ability to develop further experience in R R Markdown Python git LaTeX Bash/Shell/Batch scripting Docker VS Code GitHub etc.
  • Deep experience using R R Markdown git LaTeX Bash/Shell/Batch scripting preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware design fabrication assembly or testing preferred.
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative hazard evaluation (e.g. HAZOPs FMEA FTA ETA) preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Ascending or descending ladders stairs scaffolding ramps scissor lifts articulated boomliftsand the like.
  • Remaining in a stationary position often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Adjusting moving transporting installing positioning or removing objects up to 25 pounds in all directions.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Use hand tools.

Environmental Conditions

  • General office environment.
  • Assessing the accuracy neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • High-concentration demanding and fast-paced.
  • Prototyping/Test Facilities.
  • Manufacturing/Industrial Environments.

Safety and PPE

  • Reading and interpreting hazardous warning signs.
  • Reporting issues with equipment or unsafe conditions.
  • Wearing proper PPE to include face mask face shields gloves safety shoes etc.
