The 17-week Summer Programmer positions main duty isto plan and implement quality summer programs for Sturgeon County children/youth. The position is active from April 27- August 21 2026.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Summer Program Administration (80%)
- Plans implements and evaluates summer programs such as theme days day trips free summer bonus days and community engagements (could include virtual and/or in-person programming)
- Provides active and supportive involvement in all programs and planned activities.
- Ensures that all facilities used are kept clean and secure as well as safe for program activities.
- Ensures that an effective relation with fellow staff children parents and volunteers is maintained.
- Maintains accurate records and reports as required by their supervisor (i.e. accident reports daily time sheets program statistics final program reports etc.)
Volunteer Training and Evaluation (10%)
- Assists with training and evaluation of volunteers in the Job Experience Training (JET) program.
Other Related Duties (10%)
- Attends scheduled staff meetings.
- Completes a mid and final evaluation on self and co-workers.
- Attends training sessions and workshops as required.
- Adheres to applicable responsibilities and accountabilities as outlined in the Sturgeon County Health and Safety Management System.
KNOWLEDGE EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE
- Previous experience working with children and youth in a program setting.
- Valid first aid certificate.
- High school Diploma or equivalent.
- A valid class 5 drivers license and access to vehicle and ability to complete Defensive Driving course upon hire.
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check is required as well as a Child Welfare Intervention Check.
- Post-secondary education in recreation education or another related field would be an asset.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently with others and alone with little or no supervision.
- Punctuality self-motivation open communication and ability to take direction well and respond to public inquiries in a calm and friendly manner.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products.
