VRCCO continues to grow rapidly and with that growth comes significant investment in our people. We recently evolved our leadership structure to create clearer development pathways for our teams. Former supervisors have transitioned into lead roles across three levels that reflect skillset capability and operational needs. This new Specialty Supervisor will support several specialty departments while mentoring leads who are still developing into their leadership roles. As staffing increases we will continue to evaluate department distribution and may eventually add a second Specialty Supervisor to divide specialties more evenly.

Requirements

We are seeking a highly skilled hands-on Specialty Supervisor to support and develop multiple specialty service lines. This role will lead Dermatology Oncology Neurology Ophthalmology and Rehabilitation. The ideal candidate is a motivated compassionate leader who excels at operational oversight clinical support and team development across a diverse group of departments.


This is a salaried leadership role requiring flexibility in hours based on operational needs caseload variability and the developmental needs of the teams supported. The position is expected to include roughly thirty percent administrative responsibilities and seventy percent hands on clinical support though this balance may shift over time as the organization grows. Due to VRCCOs rapid growth and complexity the scope of this position aligns with what some organizations might classify as a Manager role even though it is titled Supervisor within our structure.


Leadership Structure and Collaboration Expectations

  • Leads in Dermatology Oncology Neurology Ophthalmology and Rehabilitation will initially function as peer partners while the Specialty Supervisor provides mentorship coaching and structure as they advance in their roles.
  • Leads in Surgery and Internal Medicine will not report directly to this position but will still collaborate closely with the Specialty Supervisor for support guidance and alignment across the hospital.
  • A certified veterinary technician is preferred due to the advanced clinical and technical skills required to support multiple specialty teams.


Operational Leadership

  • Support daily operations across assigned specialties and ensure smooth workflow strong communication and appropriate resource allocation.
  • Partner with specialty teams and veterinarians to identify opportunities for improvement and implement sustainable processes.
  • Contribute to ongoing refinement of departmental structure and leadership pathways as VRCCO continues to expand.

Team Development and Mentorship

  • Provide mentorship to leads and technicians across multiple specialty departments supporting growth in leadership capability communication organization and clinical skill.
  • Offer clear coaching and feedback while fostering a supportive accountable team culture.
  • Assist with onboarding and ongoing training to ensure consistent expectations and high standards across all supported service lines.

Clinical Support

  • Provide hands-on technical support and patient care in multiple specialty areas.
  • Model best practices in patient handling anesthesia specialty procedures communication and workflow management.
  • Ensure compliance with medical safety and sanitation standards across assigned departments.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Serve as a liaison between specialty teams veterinarians and hospital leadership.
  • Support teams with escalated client communication when needed and maintain professionalism and empathy throughout.
  • Ensure strong documentation practices and effective communication loops between shifts departments and leadership.

Administrative and Organizational Responsibilities

  • Assist with scheduling staffing assessments and long-term workload planning across specialties.
  • Maintain specialty related reports and support leadership in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in the evolution of protocols workflows and policies as VRCCO continues to grow.


Education and Experience Requirements

  • Certified Veterinary Technician strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a veterinary specialty setting required.
  • Experience leading across multiple veterinary specialties is required.
  • Leadership experience is required and must include proven ability to mentor coach and develop others in a clinical environment.
  • Must demonstrate strong organization communication clinical judgment and problem-solving skills with the capability to support and lead multiple specialty departments in a complex and growing hospital environment.
