Position Summary/Purpose:
Grand Canyon University (GCU) maintains relationships with nonprofit organizations identified by the IRS as 501(c)(3) by virtue of their charitable programs. The collective mission of 501(c)(3) organizations in the Phoenix Valley is to improve the quality of life for community residents or to solve particular problems related to those residents needs.
GCU maintains a partnership with Arcadia Christian Academy located at 6225 N Central Ave Phoenix AZ 85012. Arcadia Christian Academy is committed to providing differentiated learning opportunities that support academic success for all students. The CSLP student workers work schedule is dependent on the hours of operations and needs of Arcadia Christian Academy; however CSLP student workers may not work more than 20 hours per week during the academic year (i.e. fall/spring). If eligible CSLP student workers can work during summer (i.e. May August).
CSLP: This position has been reviewed and approved as Community Service as defined by 34 CFR 675.2(b). Per 34 CFR 675.2(b) community services are defined as Services which are designed to improve the quality of life for community residents particularly low-income individuals or to solve particular problems related to their need. These services must be open and accessible to the community.
As an FWS-CSLP approved position its services will be offered to non-GCU community members (i.e. local residents).
Note: All FWS and FWS-CSLP positions require applicants to complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at to be reviewed for FWS-eligibility and awarded FWS.
Primary Responsibilities /Accountabilities/ Essential Functions:
Preferred Shift - 8:30-12:30pm T/W/Th
Customize math lessons to align with each students grade level and learning style reinforcing the concepts currently being taught in their curriculum.
Monitor and evaluate students understanding through informal assessments quizzes or observation and adjust instruction accordingly to address gaps or challenges.
Help students complete math homework prepare for classroom tests and build confidence in applying math skills in various contexts.
Foster a supportive and engaging learning environment that helps students develop a growth mindset and reduces math anxiety.
Other duties as required.

Qualifications:
Be a subject matter expert (i.e. earning at least a 3.0 in target subject)
Ability to build rapport with students communicate effectively and adapt explanations to different learning styles.
Maintain a supportive attitude that helps students feel comfortable asking questions and build their confidence.
Must have reliable transportation.
Previous Mentoring a plus.
Ability to speak a second language a plus.
Experience/Education:
Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy. Therefore all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment:
Enrolled at GCU in a bachelors program or masters program full-time during fall/spring or half-time during summer.
Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
Pay Rate: Minimum Wage
