Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of your job position is to prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal state and local standards guidelines and regulations with our established policy and procedures and as directed by the Dietary Director or Dietician. Assist in the smooth efficient running of the Dietary Department. Prepare meals to assure that quality food service is provided at all times.
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS:
  1. Reports To: Dietary Director with staff relation to Dietician Charge Nurse and Director of Nursing.
  2. Supervises: Dietary Aides
WORK AREA: Primarily kitchen area including prep room dish room supply area dining room area with occasional trips to cottages.
REMUNERATION: Hourly non-exempt position
PERSONNEL SPECIFICATION:
  1. Education and/or demonstrated skills and abilities:
    1. High school graduate or GED equivalent.
    2. Must be able to read and write in English.
    3. Ability to maintain a good working relationship among staff and residents to provide maximum customer service.
  1. Training and Experience:
    1. Previous experience in a similar position preferably in a long-term care facility.
    2. Must be able to follow standard recipes and menus.

  1. Neat and well-groomed appearance with good personal hygiene.
  2. Politeness kindness flexibility and patience are of great importance while working with our residents and staff.
  3. Possess good work ethic with a warm & pleasant personality.
  4. Ability to work cooperatively with other departments and staff members.
  5. Genuine desire to work with the elderly.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Prepares meals cooks and serves meals as listed on the menu.
  2. Make simple estimates relative to quantities of food required.
  3. Handles and prepares food in accordance with sanitary regulations.
  4. Tastes and smells food to determine quality and palatability.
  5. Make servings appetizing in appearance.
  6. Get food trays ready.
  7. Utilizes leftovers appropriately.
  8. Wraps packages and dates food for storage.
  9. Cleans stoves oven and grills.
  10. Carries out garbage.
  11. Assures that menus are maintained and filed in accordance with established policy and procedures.
  12. Process diet changes and new diets as received for nursing services.
  13. Make only authorized food substitutions.
  14. Assist in food preparation for special meals for parties etc.
  15. Assist/direct daily or scheduled cleaning duties in accordance with established policy and procedures.
  16. Assist in maintaining food storage areas in a clean and properly arranged manner at all times.
  17. Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information to comply with HIPAA regulations.
WORK SCHEDULE: May be a full or part-time position day or evening hours revolving around meal times. Holidays and weekend hours are part of this position. This position will be required to be on call every other weekend to answer dietary questions and to cover call-offs.
JOB POSITION ANALYSIS INFORMATION: Constant standing and walking is required during working hours. Tasks assigned to this position would place employee at minimal risk of exposure to blood and body fluids.
