HIRING RANGE: $27.21 - $42.29/HOURLY

TYPE OF POSITION: REGULAR FULL TIME

HOURS WORKED: 6:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

JOB DUTIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Perform administrative and supervisory work necessary to manage the preventative maintenance vehicle and equipment repair and welding shop functions of the Vehicle Maintenance Division of the General Services Department.

Work under the Administrative guidance and direction of the General Services Director.

Responsible for prioritizing organizing planning directing staffing and controlling the operations of the Vehicle Maintenance Division. Develops and manages the daily assignment of work for all mechanics lead mechanics and welding shop personnel and ensures the completion of tasks. Reviews completed work for timeliness completeness accuracy and quality.

Work directly with other departments on how to manage the repairs and PM.

Ensure an effective and efficient process of vehicle and equipment repairs timely turnaround of vehicles and equipment. Ensure quality assurance/ quality control procedures are in place and functioning properly.

Supervise and manage the training of personnel.

Is responsible for prepare the divisional budget for review by the department head.

Evaluate and implement training requirements for staff to keep pace with the maintenance requirements of new vehicles/equipment shop tools equipment shop safety program and OSHA standards. Maintain the shop tool inventory and accountability procedures inspections and certifications.

Serve as a member of various employee committees as assigned.

Maintain and utilize excellent customer service skills establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees officials and all members of the general public.

Operate a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.

Make procedural and operational recommendations to the General Services Director and supervise changes in organization and administrative operation of the shop area as directed.

Coordinate outside fleet repairs through the service writer.

Identify and place orders for repair/replacement parts for vehicles and equipment through the

Vehicle Parts Warehouse. Determine calculate and secure the appropriate materials and supplies for a specific project.

Remain available for emergency assistance in an on-call status after regular work hours for disabled equipment as needed and appropriate.

Provide supervision and assistance in the repairing and maintenance of public transit buses.

Provide leadership and direction in the development of short and long range plans.

Communicate official plans policies and procedures to staff and the public in assigned area of responsibility.

Assure that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget; assure effective and efficient use of personnel materials facilities and time.

Issue written and oral instructions; assigns duties and examines work for exactness neatness and conformance to policies and procedures.

Maintain harmony among workers and may deal with grievances.

Prepare and maintain daily monthly annual reports records and other specialized maintenance records of equipment and mechanical equipment.

Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

Must be willing to be on 24 hour call and able to be at MOC within 30 minutes of call out.

Perform duties of subordinate personnel as needed.

Serve as a member of the department heads management team communicate key organizational issues to staff and relays employee issues to department head.

Perform related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

This position is subject to the City of Farmingtons Drug and Alcohol-free Workplace Policy which includes: pre-employment testing post-accident testing random testing reasonable suspicion testing return to duty testing and follow-up testing.

Graduation from High School or GED equivalent and ten (10) years of increasingly responsible experience in vehicle/equipment repair with a wide variety of vehicles and equipment or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Valid New Mexico drivers license required.

Thorough knowledge of preventative maintenance programs; vehicle repair procedures and related tools and supplies necessary to service a large diversified fleet.

Considerable knowledge of vehicle and equipment vendors. Bid specifications ordering procedures and associated time schedules.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and skilled in constructive communication

in stressful situations.

Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with General Services Director management personnel from other departments employees other City personnel and the public.

Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.

Must be a certified mechanic by Automotive Service Excellence (A.S.E.) in at least four (4) fields.

Extensive knowledge of automotive mechanics; thorough knowledge of gas and diesel engines transmissions hydraulics fire pumps and valves generators and welding price trends and grades or quality of materials and equipment.

Extensive knowledge of heavy equipment mechanics and repair methods.

Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities.

Thorough knowledge of the practices methods materials and tools used in modern equipment maintenance.

Ability to maintain effective preventive maintenance programs policies and procedures.

Ability to work all shifts including weekends and holidays.

Must have a telephone and be willing to be on 24 hour call; must be able to be at the

Municipal Operations Center within thirty minutes after receiving a call or page.

Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Skill in operation of motorized vehicles for mechanical testing purposes power and hand tools and equipment for vehicle and mechanical system work; mechanics tools including jacks hydraulic lifts air tools and other tools required for minor repairs and routine maintenance of motorized vehicles; electronic vehicle diagnostic equipment; personal computer; calculator; phone; mobile or portable radio.
