Chief Estimator / Preconstruction Manager (Commercial Drywall Construction)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experiencedSenior Estimator / Preconstruction Managerto lead estimating operations for a high-volume commercial construction firm. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the full preconstruction process mentoring junior estimators and driving profitable project acquisition through accurate and strategic bidding.
This is ahands-on leadership rolerequiring strong technical estimating skills software proficiency and the ability to manage people and processes.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all estimating and preconstruction efforts for commercial projects ranging from small scopes to $10M
Oversee review and validate estimates prepared by junior estimators
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and pricing usingOST / QuickBidsoftware
Analyze drawings specifications and bid documents to identify risks and opportunities
Develop bid strategies focused on margin accuracy and long-term client relationships
Collaborate with operations and leadership to ensure smooth handoff from preconstruction to execution
Maintain bid schedules and ensure timely complete submissions
Support business development through relationship-driven estimating (not purely low-bid)
Required Qualifications
Minimum 5 yearsof commercial estimating experience (more preferred)
Mandatory experience with OST / QuickBid
Proven experience estimating commercial construction projects up to $10M
Prior experience leading or mentoring estimators is strongly preferred
Strong understanding of construction documents scopes and cost drivers
Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment
Must be willing to work100% in-office
