The Cytology Technologist 2 performs advanced screening and interpretation of cytology specimens and supports the daily operations of the Cytology Laboratory. This role assists with workflow coordination training documentation maintenance and quality initiatives. The Cytology Technologist 2 demonstrates a higher level of experience leadership and competency while ensuring compliance with Florida state regulations CLIA CAP and laboratory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Screen and interpret complex cytology specimens (GYN and non-GYN) using advanced diagnostic criteria and Florida regulatory standards.
Identify abnormal atypical or suspicious cells and refer cases to the pathologist per laboratory protocol.
Lead or mentor fellow cytotechnologists offering guidance support and constructive feedback.
Assist the supervisor/manager with workflow coordination bench assignments and daily operations.
Participate in training new cytotechnologists students or rotating team members.
Support the supervisor in maintaining and updating laboratory documentation including SOPs worksheets and compliance records.
Participate in quality assurance and quality control programs including rescreens proficiency testing audits and quality improvement projects.
Assist with Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) procedures including specimen collection slide preparation and adequacy assessments especially for advanced or high-priority cases.
Operate maintain and troubleshoot cytology equipment and instrumentation.
Demonstrate a higher level of technical expertise experience and professional judgment serving as a resource for the cytology team.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in science or related field.
Completion of an accredited Cytotechnology program.
ASCP (CT) certification
Current Florida state license
3-5 years of experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience screening both GYN and non-GYN cytology cases.
Experience assisting with or interpreting FNA adequacy assessments.
Familiarity with molecular testing workflows (e.g. HPV ThyroSeq etc.).
Strong computer skills and experience using laboratory information systems.
