The Child Youth and Emerging Adult Program (CYEAP) is currently seeking two (2) full-time temporary (1 year)Occupational Therapists to work in its Slaight Centre Early Intervention Service (SCEIS). The SCEIS provides clinic and community-based assessment and treatment for young people 14-35 years of age experiencing a primary psychotic disorder often early stage; affective and non-affective primary psychotic disorders.

Reporting to the Manager of SCEIS you will be expected to contribute to program development continuous quality improvement initiatives and to the research and educational activities of the service. Your primary role will include but is not limited to supporting education and employment interventions psychoeducation and recovery-oriented and therapeutic programming as indicated with this position you will function as an Occupational Therapist within an interprofessional practice team. You will be expected to assess plan implement and evaluate clinical care utilizing the Slaight Centre Integrated Care Pathway incorporating both measurement tools to support measurement based care as well as a standardized evidence-based model of care.

The SCEIS implements Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) using the NAVIGATE program along with peer support work. Specifically you will be providing the Supported Education and Employment (SEE) component of this model of care. Another aspect of this position within the Supported Education and Employment component may include job development. As a result the candidate will liaise with other services across CAMH and with external community agencies creating partnerships to support job development and ultimately the rapid job placement portion of SEE; the candidate may be involved in system level advocacy regarding aspects of job development. You will have sound knowledge of early intervention in psychosis psychosocial rehabilitation crisis intervention addiction issues recovery principles groups severe and persistent mental illness especially schizophrenia spectrum disorders and affective psychosis. Your strengths will include an ability to engage patients and their support network in care planning and treatment decisions on an ongoing basis. Candidates must be capable of providing supervision of Masters of Occupational Therapy students.

This position may require flexibility in work hours possibly with some evening and weekend hours. This position is located at 1025 Queen Street West. This position may require some travel within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

You must be registered and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO). You must possess a Masters degree in Occupational Therapy (or a Bachelors degree in Occupational Therapy plus a Masters degree in OT Rehab Sciences or a related field) combined with a preferred three (3) years of experience working with individuals who have a serious mental illness. You must also have membership in either the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapy and/or Canadian Association of Occupational Therapy and be a holder of COTOs pre-requisite Professional Liability Insurance. You also must be eligible for adjunct/status-only appointments with university faculties associated with Occupational Therapy that has affiliation agreements with CAMH.

You must possess a strong knowledge of and ability to apply principles of crisis intervention; experience in a mental health/addiction setting; knowledge of recovery; understanding of concurrent disorders and its impact on this population; experience in completing functional/vocational assessment; and facilitating groups as appropriate for the first episode psychosis patients. You possess knowledge of community supports and resources. Knowledge of the Individual Placement and Support model of supported employment and education would be an asset as well as experience with job development.

You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of aggressive behaviour and possess effective decision-making and problem solving skills. The successful candidate will also possess superior communication and interpersonal skills and along with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders within and outside of CAMH. Demonstrated ability to work with patients of diverse backgrounds is necessary. Bilingualism (French/English) and /or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
