The City of Harrisonburg is currently seeking applications for Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Certified Police Officers interested in joining HPD as a part-time employee to assist with various assignments such as Patrol School Resource Officer (SRO) Emergency Custody Orders (ECO) and Temporary Detention Orders (TDO).

Candidates who are not currently Virginia DCJS Certified Police Officers will not be considered for this process and should monitor theCitys websitefor the next entry-level Police Officer-related posting.

The preferred hiring range for this position is $26.86 - $29.22 per hour. An exact offer may be determined based on the years of experience as a Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Certified Officer and other related factors.

While this particular position will assist with various assignments sample duties are listed below:

Assist with patrol functions including but not limited to enforcing laws investigating criminal activity ensuring public safety handling calls-for-service (CFS) emergency responses and other first responder duties.
Serve in the Community Resource Unit as an SRO assigned to K-12 schools in the Harrisonburg City Public Schools (if trained as an SRO).
Assist with calls for service related to Emergency Custody Orders (ECO) and Temporary Detention Orders (TDO) to include maintaining security of detained individuals and providing transportation of consumers to appropriate mental health facilities outside of the city limits.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Currently certified as a Law Enforcement Officer through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) the Federal Government or another state.
High School Diploma or GED. College Degree or Military Experience preferred.
21 years of age at time of application.
U.S. Citizen orPermanent Resident Alien with an application for Naturalization filed and pending with Immigration Services if DCJS-approved.
Valid drivers license with acceptable record per City policy.
Ability to work on a part-time basis. Schedule may vary depending upon business needs.
Must live or be willing to move within a one (1) hour drive of Harrisonburg VA.

The selected candidates for Police Officer II positions will be subject to the following screenings and must receive satisfactory results:

DMV Driving Record Review;
Drug Screen;
Personal History Statement***;
Criminal Background Investigation including Social Media Review & Fingerprinting;
Credit Check;
Physical Abilities Test;
Job-Specific Physical;
Psychological Evaluation; and
Polygraph.

***Due to the sensitive nature of this positions essential functions the successful applicants selected for the role will be required to submit a completed Personal History Statement. At a later date more information will be provided to the candidates selected for this step in this process.
