He whakamārama mo te tūranga mahi About therole:
Our Marine Fitter Welder is responsible for fitting assembling and welding metal components and structures used in ship repair and marine equipment fabrication. The role involves interpreting technical drawings conducting structural modifications performing precision welding and ensuring the work meets quality safety and classification standards.
Key accountabilities include:
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings blueprints and specifications for marine structures and systems
- Fitting and assembling metal components such as hull plates frames bulkheads and pipe supports
- Carrying out cutting grinding and shaping operations using hand and power tools
- Collaborating with engineers supervisors and other trades to ensure project deadlines are met
- Reporting all matters that affect or may affect the safety of the environment
- Identify rectify workshop and engine room hazards and ensure all reportable incidents and accidents are properly reported and documented
- Assist with engineering tasks both in the workshop and onboard the ships.
- Help out with deliveries.
- Maybe assist with surveys.
Ngā pukenga e rapu nei mātou What (skills) you will bring:
Knowledge and experience
- Minimum 35 years experience in marine fitting and welding preferably in shipyards or offshore environments
- Knowledge of marine fabrication ship structure and alignment techniques
- Ability to work from engineering drawings and follow welding procedures
- Skilled in using measuring instruments and hand/power tools
Ways of working / Work-related qualities
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- Good teamwork and communication skills
- Physically fit and comfortable working in confined spaces and marine environments
Other Requirements
- You have a current and clean NZ Class 2 drivers licence
Qualifications
- Trade Certificate / Diploma in Welding Fabrication or Marine Engineering
- Certified Welder
- Basic Safety Training (STCW) an advantage
Working Conditions
- Dockyard or onboard Interislander vessels
- May involve shift work overtime and working at heights or in confined spaces
- Exposure to noise heat and weather conditions typical of marine operations
