About the opportunity

The Technical Product Owner is responsible for maximising the value delivered by a cross-functional squad ensuring alignment between customer needs business goals and the squads work.

Operating in a Team Topologiesaligned environment the Technical Product Owner serves as the squads single voice of intentowning the problem space shaping the product backlog and enabling the squad to make smart delivery decisions. They work closely with product managers designers engineers and stakeholders to deeply understand customer journeys and ensure that what gets built is valuable feasible and usable.

Technical Product Owners at Bendigo Bank prioritise collaboration clarity and empowered decision making. They balance discovery with delivery short-term iteration with long-term value creation and squad-level execution with strategic alignment.

In this role youll get to

  • Define and communicate a clear technology vision and strategy ensuring it aligns with the overall business strategy and customer needs.
  • Own and continuously refine the squads product backlog ensuring items are prioritised and well-articulated.
  • Understand and articulate the customer problems your squad is solving through research data and direct feedback.
  • Create clarity around squad goals and priorities through transparent communication and context sharing.
  • Act as the primary conduit between the squad and its external stakeholders.

What youll bring to the role

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Strong understanding of modern product development practices especially agile lean and human-centred design
  • Ability to define and communicate clear goals priorities and customer problems
  • Confidence in managing ambiguity making trade-offs and navigating competing priorities
  • Skilled in story writing prioritisation techniques and backlog refinement
  • Familiarity with delivery flow metrics (e.g. cycle time throughput WIP) and team health indicators (e.g. DORA metrics)
  • Excellent stakeholder management facilitation and communication skills
  • Deep curiosity about customers and a bias toward evidence-based decision-making
