Examples of Important Duties
Teach American Sign Language courses to students of varying skill levels
Create a welcoming inclusive classroom environment that supports diverse learners
Develop engaging lesson plans that incorporate Deaf culture history and real-world communication
Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback
Encourage confidence cultural respect and a love of learning ASL
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Required
ASL teaching certification or degree in ASL Deaf Studies Education or a related field
Experience teaching in academic community or online settings
Native or near-native ASL proficiency
Preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Fluent expressive and receptive skills in American Sign Language
Effective instructional and classroom management skills
Ability to design engaging visually based lesson plans and activities
Skill in assessing student progress and providing constructive feedback
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse learners
Proficiency in using instructional technology and visual learning tools
Adaptability in teaching methods to accommodate varying learning styles
Supplemental Information
May be subject to medical drug and alcohol testing.
This position does not provide benefits.

Work hours
Working Conditions/Environment
Instruction may take place in a classroom community center workplace setting
Work requires clear visual communication including frequent use of American Sign Language facial expressions and body language
Instructor will be positioned where all students have an unobstructed view for effective visual learning. Class size 10 student max
Classroom environment is inclusive culturally respectful and aligned with Deaf-centered communication practices
Use of visual teaching aids such as videos presentations whiteboards and interactive activities
Lighting and seating arrangements are designed to support visibility and accessibility
May involve standing moving around the classroom and sustained arm and hand movement during instruction
Schedule may include daytime evening or weekend hours depending on Instructors availability
