For over 15 years Amazon Web Services (AWS) has been the worlds most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud computing platform. What is cloud computing Cloud computing is the on-demand delivery of IT resources over the Internet.

The AWS Environmental team is an expanding and dynamic team that is critical to enabling AWSs growth around the world as well as ensuring compliance of AWSs global operations including physical data centers as well as other AWS facilities customer-facing enterprises and products. The Environmental team has responsibility for developing and implementing AWSs global environmental programs.

We are seeking an Environmental Engineer to support site development and environmental compliance in the United Kingdom. The environmental engineer will support new site development in the UK including environmental permit preparation communication with the authorities and overseeing consultants helping with the permit preparartion. The engineer will also ensure standards and policies support regulatory compliance and they will provide appropriate environmental guidance to regional operations teams. The individual will support environmental performance analysis reporting monitor metrics and guide the operations teams in implementation of Amazon environmental procedures. The environmental engineer will work with internal and external partners that include government entities contractors consultants design construction operations and other key stakeholders.

The Environmental Engineer must have excellent communication skills local language skills strong environmental regulatory knowledge including environmental permit preparation processes demonstrated success in supporting roles for program development and management of complex and technical projects.


Key job responsibilities
Assess and support compliance with local and national environmental regulations contractual obligations and Amazon policy.

Support environmental permit prepartion and submital to environmental authorities negociating permit requirements.

Review and follow environmental due diligence processes for new site selection liaising with internal stakeholders.

Play a key role in regional environmental programs by integrating with engineering construction and operation teams - drive an environmentally responsible culture within the organization while maintaining environmental management processes and external accreditation.

Ensure work performed by contractors consultants and employees is completed in accordance with Amazon standards.

Develop analyze and present environmental metrics horizon scan for risk and effectively communicate insights to internal stakeholders.

Submit time critical environmental reports to various governmental agencies.

Complete thorough environmental investigations and associated regulatory reporting including working with operations/necessary stakeholders to develop and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

- Bachelor degree in environmental science chemical or environmental engineering or related field
- 7 years serving as an environmental technical resource compliance specialist or program manager
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations (air quality water quality waste management hazardous materials)
- Applied knowledge of local national and European environmental laws and standards
- Proven experience with regulatory assessments permit preparation and compliance management
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Ability to work under pressure and handle regulatory deadlines
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Experience in environmental reporting and documentation
- Ability to conduct environmental investigations and develop corrective actions
- Strong communication skills in local language and English
- Ability to collaborate with various departments and external stakeholders
- Experience working with contractors consultants and regulatory agencies

- Masters degree or equivalent in environmental field
- Experience in data center or industrial facility environmental management
- Knowledge of environmental management systems (ISO 14001)
- Experience with environmental impact assessments
- Familiarity with sustainability reporting and metrics
- Knowledge of waste management and circular economy principles
- Experience with environmental auditing and compliance verification
- Understanding of climate change regulations and carbon reporting
