Confined Space Attendant

Will perform various labor-intensive tasks in an industrial setting under the direction of a supervisor or for confined space attendant duties work areas to prevent fire hazards ensuring safety protocols are followed and responding quickly to any fire-related incidents. May assist other craft workers. Other duties may be assigned.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Have working knowledge of Confined Space Entry Safety Program/Procedures
  • Focus on the primary duty to monitor and protect the Entrant
  • Know the LOTO procedure and ensure all employees follow the LOTO requirements
  • Know the acceptable entry conditions for oxygen LEL and toxic contaminants
  • Perform the duties of the external fire watch for Hotwork being performed
  • Remain outside the permit space during entry operations unless relieved by another authorized attendant
  • Maintain communication with the Entrant (s) by verbal communication clearly communicated signals or radio
  • Post the permit at or near the point of entry and keep an accurate account of those workers entering or exiting the permit space
  • Ensure ventilation is in use and remains functional throughout the entry
  • Verify that the entrant has completed and documented pre-entry meter readings
  • Verify Entrant is wearing all required PPE identified on the permit including a harness connected to a Rescue Self Retracting Lifeline (RSRL) or mechanical rescue device
  • Summon rescue and other services during an emergency
  • Inform authorized entrants and the entry supervisor if any unauthorized person enters the permit space
  • Use stop work authority if asked to do something you are not comfortable with or it feels wrong
  • Eliminate or identify safety hazards as you see them
  • Must be able to perform work wearing personnel protective equipment. Including but not limited to the following: rain gear chemical protective clothing supplied air and air purifying respirators safety harness sand blast hoods fire resistant coveralls hard hat ear plugs and safety glasses.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to have full range of mobility in upper and lower body able to reach overhead able to work in various positions including but not limited to stooping standing bending over sitting kneeling squatting; use hands to handle or feel objects tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance for extended periods of time.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications Required for this Position:

Education: no minimum education requirements.

Certification/License: A Valid Drivers License and TWIC Card.

Experience: 6 months of experience in an Industrial setting preferred.
