The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) is dedicated to transforming young lives creating safer communities and fostering equitable systems. We are seeking passionate individuals for the role of the Skilled Trades Specialist IV so come join our team and make a meaningful impact on youth and the community at DJS!
This position is responsible for the daily-uninterrupted operation of the Alfred D. Noyes Childrens Center and handles maintenance duties such as HVAC lighting plumbing and preventative maintenance. The Skilled Trades Specialist IV may also handle new construction installations alterations renovations painting and repairs of facility equipment electrical work and grounds maintenance/snow removal in order to maintain the facility.
This position requires the incumbent to work second shift 10:30 a.m. 7:00 p.m.
POSITION DUTIES
The Skilled Trades SpecialistIV position duties include but are not limited to: Performing maintenance and repairs for allbuilding systems to maintain the facility.
Installing repairing and maintaining plumbingsystems.
Performing maintenance and repairs on variouselectrical equipment and fixtures.
Performs road repair and walkways.
Applying plaster to walls and ceilingsrepairing damaged surfaces and performing concrete work on various structures.
Prepares interior and exterior surfaces forpainting.
Operates central air conditioning plants andequipment conducts safety inspections of boilers and provides oversight to thecleaning repair and maintenance of furnaces and boilers.
Providing year-round outside groundsmaintenance for DJS facilities to maintain a safe and properly manicuredproperty
Assisting in the relocation of furniture andother equipment necessary to provide the proper environment of occupants atvarious buildings.
Carries out repairs tobuildings as a Skilled Trades Specialist IV. Exhibits the ability tointerpretand analyze specific instructions provided by the supervising MaintenanceSupervisor IV for minor repairs.
Performs the PreventiveMaintenance plan as instructed for the facility plant operation inaccordancewith all required repairs.
Performs allresponsibilities assigned by the supervising Maintenance Supervisor IV;exhibitsskillsnecessary to operate all maintenance tools.
Performs emergencyrepairs.
Performs functions asrelated to Logistics Control.
Performs properoperation of all State owned vehicles and ground equipment in accordancewith allDJS policies.
Daily record keeping toensure compliance with DJS and ACA standards.
Responds to thefacility when instructed to complete repairs and for weather related facilityoperations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency
certificate.
Experience: Five years of experience performing skilled trade work in plumbing carpentry electrical HVAC locksmith masonry painting or welding work.
Note:
1. Candidates may substitute additional years of experience for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Thepreferred candidate for this position may possess any of the followingqualifications: Experience in groundsmaintenance
Experience overseeing a complexrepair or renovation project by ensure that the work met safety codes and stateregulations stayed on budget and was completed on time.
Experience staying current withchanges in building codes OSHA standards and trade-specific regulations.
Experience mentoring orsupervising lower-level technicians.
LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.
2. Employees in this classification who perform electrical work and are assigned to facilities that mandate licensed electricians must possess a current license as a Master Electrician or other appropriate electrician license from a local board or from the Maryland State Board of Master Electricians 500 N. Calvert Street Baltimore Maryland 21202-3651.
3. Employees in this classification who perform work as a plumber must possess a Maryland Journeyman/Gas Fitter License.
