Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Dean of the Hawaiinuiakea the Graduate Assistant will:

  • Assist with the development planning and execution of work plans to support Hawaiinuiakea School of Hawaiian Knowledge initiatives projects and and community-based efforts.
  • Provide support in translation of select school communications between English and Hawaiian.
  • Oversee the peer mentors and provide coordination tracking and project-management support for the early college initiatives.
  • Communicate and collaborate with personnel across HSHK and the University of Hawaii to ensure effective and timely implementation of assigned tasks and deliverables.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelors or masters degree in a field closely aligned with place-based community development leadership and/or Indigenous studies (e.g. Hawaiian Studies Hawaiian Language Education Social Work or equivalent) and must be officially admitted to a UH Manoa graduate degree program.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in coordination or project-management support for early-learning or early-college program activities.
  • Fluency in both English and Hawaiian language (oral and written).
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty staff students community members and visitors.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs such as databases spreadsheets and word-processing applications (e.g. Microsoft Windows Excel and Word).
  • Demonstrated organizational ability attention to detail self-initiative and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.


Desirable Qualification:

  • Bachelors degree in Hawaiian Studies.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience using standard office applications and broad internet technologies.
  • High-level proficiency or advanced fluency in Hawaiian language.
