    Required:

    • Must hold a clinical doctorate
    • Must have successfully completed an approved program in school audiology
    • Must have a valid endorsement in audiology

    JOB DESCRIPTION
    Summary/Objective:
    The Audiologist will identify hearing loss in students through ongoing school screenings and audiological management programs and provide appropriate medical and educational referrals for services. The audiologist will also evaluate the need for and provide amplification instrumentation (excluding hearing aids) to students in the school setting. Additionally the audiologist will participate as a member of the educational team to accomplish program goals objectives and designing appropriate intervention plans for students with hearing loss.

    Essential Job Functions:
    • Identify hearing loss
    • Perform standard audiometric screening procedures and comprehensive audiologicevaluations based on individual student needs.
    • Establish administer and coordinate hearing and/or auditory processing disorders identification programs.
    • Train and supervise audiology support or other personnel who screen for hearing loss.
    • Maintain accurate and accountable records for referral and follow-up of hearing screenings.
    • Provide meaningful audiologic assessment results verbally and in writing to educational personnel parents/guardians and other appropriate personnel.
    • Select maintain and calibrate audiologic equipment.
    • Evaluation and provision of amplification instrumentation for students in school:
    • Determine a students need for and appropriateness for hearing aids and other hearing assistance equipment such as but not limited to classroom and ear-level FM systems.
    • Perform the appropriate selection verification and maintenance of hearing assistance technology including ear mold impressions and modifications.
    • Evaluate situational functional communication performance to validate amplified or electronically stimulated hearing abilities.
    • Plan and implement orientation and education programs to improve acceptance of adjustment to and benefit from hearing aids cochlear implants and hearing assistance technology.
    • Assess whether hearing aids cochlear implants and other hearing assistance technology are functioning properly.
    • Notify parents/guardians when a repair and/or maintenance for personal hearing assistance devices are required.
    • Identification of appropriate intervention methods and necessary levels of service including:
      • Auditory skill development aural rehabilitation and listening devices orientation and training.
      • Speech skill development.
      • Visual communication systems and strategies including speech reading manual communication and cued speech.
      • Expressive and receptive language development including oral signed cued and/or written language.
      • The selection and use of appropriate instructional materials and media.
      • Social skills self-esteem and self-advocacy training.
      • Provide and/or make recommendations with regard to assistive technology.
    • Provide information and training to teachers administrators students parent/guardians and other appropriate individuals regarding hearing and auditory development hearing loss hearing assistance devices and impact of classroom acoustics.
    • Conduct analysis of classroom and other educational settings and make recommendations for improvement.
    • Develop implement and/or manage programs for the prevention of hearing loss.

    Work Environment/ Physical Demands:Abilitiy to sit for long periods of time numerous distrctions visual auditory and ambulatory acuity important. Ocassional lifting of up to 30 pounds.

    Travel: Some may be required.
