MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2 HEAVY/ COASTAL LAFAYETTE REGION
This position is a Mobile Equipment Operator 2 Heavy in the Coastal Lafayette Region and reports directly to a Maintenance Foreman. This is a highly skilled position that requires a high degree of precision and safety in the operation of large mobile equipment on and off barges in soft fluid marsh soils as well as on solid ground; all in the support of marsh management and erosion control projects as well as facility construction. The incumbent of this position will operate heavy equipment such as bulldozers draglines tractors pile drivers backhoes excavators (land-based amphibious) trucks and boats and provides maintenance and minor repairs to this equipment.
Some work requires moderate efforts and some will require brief periods in which heavy muscular exertion and strenuous physical exertion in climbing lifting objects over 50 pounds or crouching or crawling in restricted areas is required. Travel throughout Louisiana including overnight stay and early morning departure is required as well as night work in boats and airboats. Incumbent will be required to stay on remote facilities tugs and houseboats for up to 8 days and 7 nights at a time and work a revolving 8 days on 6 days off hitch. Travel per diem is paid for most overnight travel.
Three years of experience in mobile equipment operations.

Appointment Type: Job appointment probational appointment promotional or detail to special duty.
If filled as a job appointment there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available. Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if selected.
