Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations Engineer

The Sanitation Districts is currently recruiting for a Water Reclamation Plants Operations Engineer. The position is within our Wastewater Management Department supporting the Water Reclamation Plants Section and is based at our San Jose Creek Water Reclamation Plant in Whittier.

Candidates must possess a valid California Class C drivers license -AND-

ENGINEERING ASSOCIATE II LEVEL:

• Option 1:A bachelors degree and a masters degree both in a pertinent engineering discipline from an accredited and recognized college or university
• Option 2:A bachelors degree from an accredited and recognized college or university in a related science with an Engineer-In-Training Certificate and a masters degree from an accredited and recognized college or university in a pertinent engineering discipline
• Option 3: Two (2) years of professional engineering experience subsequent to earning a bachelors degree in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or university

ENGINEERING ASSOCIATE III LEVEL:

• Option 1:Two (2) years of experience as an Engineering Associate II
• Option 2:Four (4) years of professional engineering experience subsequent to earning a bachelors degree in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or university.

PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER LEVEL:

• Possession of a Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer with the California Board for Professional Engineers Land Surveyors and Geologists
• AND:
• Option 1:Six (6) years of professional engineering experience subsequent to earning a bachelors degree in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or university
• Option 2:A masters degree in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or university -AND- Three (3) years of professional engineering experience
• Option 3:A PhD in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or university -AND- two (2) years of professional engineering experience
  
  

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

• Possession of a Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer with the California Board for Professional Engineers Land Surveyors and Geologists
• Three (3) years of professional engineering experience

The competitive selection process forALL LEVELSmay include:

Knowledge of:

• Professional engineering principles and practices related to wastewater or water treatment processes
• Hydraulic analysis and sizing/selection of pumps
• Large-scale engineering construction projects related to wastewater or the water industry
• Process optimization
• Asset management and reliability-centered maintenance
• Project management methods
• Contract administration
• Regulatory requirements for wastewater treatment plants

Ability to:

• Design and evaluate wastewater engineering projects
• Analyze engineering problems and develop appropriate solutions
• Prepare review check and interpret engineering plans and specifications
• Provide construction support and work with plant staff to minimize impact to current operations
• Plan organize and monitor the effectiveness of the work of consultants and vendors
• Coordinate and administer a variety of civil mechanical electrical and instrumentation projects related to the operation and maintenance of the water reclamation plants
• Interpret and apply applicable laws regulations policies and procedures
• Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Districts staff regulatory agencies consultants and vendors
• Manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
• Prepare and coordinate the development of comprehensive reports

NOTES:

• A 9/80 work schedule is available. This position is not eligible for telework or working-from-home policies.
• The individual(s) recommended for hire must undergo a job-related reference check DMV report and a drug test.
• Candidates who have completed their required college or university coursework outside the United States must provide a comprehensive evaluation of their foreign transcripts and degrees upon selection for this position.
