Job Summary

Desirable Qualifications
Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity equity and inclusion into all areas of responsibility; Recent experience working with African American Asian/Pacific Islander Latinx Native American and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes; Experience working with students of various cultural gender age socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds including students with disabilities; Willingness to examine and remediate ones instructional relational and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students; Related work and professional experience; Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff; Demonstrated ability to work with computers and other technologies which are utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students; Experience working with traditionally underrepresented student populations such as students of color and foster youth and the ability to support students across sociocultural and socioeconomic diversities; Experience in facilitating multicultural and cross-cultural communication with sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic cultural gender and ethnic backgrounds of community college students; Experience with and sensitivity to under-prepared and high-need students at the community college; Successful experience in teaching or evidence of preparation to teach a broad range of college English courses such as courses in basic skills reading and writing transfer-level composition and critical thinking; Knowledge and understanding of the pedagogy to teach Reading and Writing courses at the community college level; Demonstrated commitment to professional development in English and Reading disciplines; Demonstrated ability to promote and apply the colleges values for creating a learning environment of respect and equity while encouraging creativity and critical thinking; Willingness to develop and expand the college English program in areas such as curriculum development instructional technology interdisciplinary linkages and basic skills; Experience in the development and assessment of student learning outcomes program learning outcomes and general education learning outcomes; Demonstrated ability and desire to work collaboratively with faculty and staff to enhance instruction curriculum student learning support and student success; Familiarity with a writing center/lab setting or tutorial center for instructional enhancement; Expertise in using current pedagogy for teaching composition courses basic skills reading and writing and integrated reading and writing; An online teaching certificate or the desire to earn one and a willingness to teach classes online; Awareness of current state and local legislation such as AB 705 and its effect on the community college system; Knowledge and awareness of current theories and methodology for teaching writing; Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials; and Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Minimum Qualifications
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic cultural disability gender identity sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; and Masters in English Literature Comparative Literature or Composition; or Bachelors in any of the above and masters in Linguistics TESL Speech Education with a specialization in Reading Creative Writing or Journalism; or A valid California Community College Credential; or The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency) . ( Note: If the degrees posted on your transcript(s) do not match exactly as stated above you must petition for equivalency. For example: If your qualifying degree is in Creative Writing and you do not have a bachelors degree in English you will need to petition for equivalency.)
