About the role:
We are seeking an exceptional Director Engineering to join our Search team. This role will report to the Chief Technology Officer. The Search team owns our provider recommendations system provider data aggregation pipelines and our AI-powered member support systems.
Where you will work:
This role will be based in our New York City office. You must be willing to work in the office 3 days per week on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday. Relocation assistance is available for non-local candidates.
What you will do:
- Lead the development of a world-class Search system that organizes provider data in order to deliver relevant and impactful recommendations to our members
- Own and drive the execution of relevant quarterly deliverables and long-term strategy
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to align strategies and achieve company objectives
- Provide leadership and guidance to your teams fostering a culture of excellence collaboration and accountability
- Ensure your team proactively incorporates relevant new technologies system designs and strategies especially in the domains of big data ML and AI
- Influence relevant partner teams in order to accelerate delivery across the organization
- Champion and ensure the privacy and security of our users data
- Mentor grow and recruit Garners next generation of engineering leaders
The ideal candidate has:
- 6 years in software engineering including 3 years managing software or data engineering teams
- 1 year managing engineering managers
- Experience operating production ML systems for user-facing use cases using modern ML platforms (e.g. SageMaker Vertex AI MLflow BentoML or similar)
- Familiarity with feature engineering technologies including DataFrame-based processing frameworks and feature stores used in production systems
- Familiarity with the production ML lifecycle including how models are packaged deployed and iterated over time; model development experience is not required
- Familiarity with data engineering concepts that support ML-powered systems including large-scale data processing and orchestration (e.g. Spark Airflow or similar) used to produce and maintain model features
- Experience with personalization recommendation or search systems preferred
- Ability to translate complex business needs into a clear executable technical roadmap
- Experience working with regulated data; healthcare data standards (HIPAA EDI) a plus
- A willingness to roll up your sleeves and do whatever is necessary to ensure company success
- Experience working in a rapidly evolving startup environment

The target salary range for this position is $285000 - $315000.
