Boston Whaler will hold a job fair on Tuesday January 13th (3:00 PM - 7:00 PM) and Wednesday January 14th (10:00 AM - 2:00 PM)

We are hiring for Assembly Finishing Lamination and more!

Position Overview (Assembly):

As part of the talented Assembly team you will be a skilled and detail-oriented professional responsible for assembling fitting and installing various components to construct boats watercraft or marine vessels. The role requires a strong understanding of mechanical processes hand tools and the ability to follow technical instructions accurately. Boat assemblers play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the finished product.

Essential Functions:

  • Boat Assembly: Read and interpret technical drawings blueprints and work orders to assemble boats. Assemble various boat components including hulls decks cabins bulkheads and other structural elements.
  • Installation and Fitment: Ensure proper alignment and fitting of components including using hand tools power tools and precision measuring instruments to achieve precise tolerances.
  • Quality Control: Perform quality checks throughout the assembly process to identify defects inaccuracies or deviations from specifications. Address any issues promptly and collaborate with the quality assurance team to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to minimize workplace accidents and maintain a safe working environment. Report any safety concerns or incidents to supervisors immediately.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other boat assemblers technicians engineers and designers to coordinate tasks and ensure smooth workflow. Provide support assistance and Training for colleagues when required.
  • Tool and Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and care for assembly tools equipment and machinery. Report any malfunctions or the need for repairs to the appropriate department and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Time Management: Complete assigned tasks within specified time frames to meet production schedules and deadlines.

Position Overview (Finishing):

The Fiberglass Finisher will be responsible for repairs of fiberglass boat hulls decks and small parts. They are key drivers of delivering a flawless product by using a variety of skills. They will be responsible for inspection and have an understanding of fiberglass finishing. They will need to use a variety of tools which include but not limited to: spray guns buffers grinders drills and/or other specialty tools and fixtures.

  • Repairs fiberglass boat hulls decks and small parts using spray gun with paint buffer with wax polish compound fillers putty and/or paste

  • Hand tools may include gel-coat spray equipment grinders buffer drill or other specialty tools and fixtures

  • Understand and follow verbal and written directions

  • Responsible for parts inspection and have an understanding of fiberglass finish or basic use of abrasives

  • Works following specific job instructions frequently reading and providing verbal and/or written status of part completion

  • Hand tools may include gel-coat spray equipment grinders buffer drill or other specialty tools and fixtures

  • Responsible for parts inspection and have an understanding of fiberglass finish or basic use of abrasive

Position Overview (Lamination):

A fiberglass laminator creates components for boats applying fiberglass to a mold. The fiberglass laminator ensures that all areas of the mold are covered in a sufficient amount of resin-saturated fiberglass matting to provide the desired strength of the finished component using a tool called a chop gun or hands to press the resin-saturated fiberglass matting into the mold. Once the fiberglass is sprayed/laid onto the mold it is then pressed out to remove all of the air bubbles and air pockets from the fiberglass matting so that the mold can produce a solid sheet of fiberglass. When it is a 2-part mold spacing blocks will need to be strategically placed and one mold will be inserted into the other. Mixing the resins and removing the cured product from the mold are tasks to be included within this position.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure required parts and raw materials are ready to run when they are scheduled

  • Arrange material in a certain order or pattern according to documentation using numbers letters words or pictures.

  • Spray fiberglass and/or lays sheets of fiberglass on part mold

  • Once the fiberglass is sprayed/laid onto the form press the layers into place and use a roller to smooth out any wrinkles or voids.

  • Ability to use fiberglass chop guns

  • Use hands and arms as well as rollers in handling installing positioning and to manipulate material.

  • Use mil gauge for gel coats and fiberglass to ensure the right amount of material is being applied

  • Ensure that material and storage in area of assignment appears clean and tidy.

  • Participate in continuous improvement and cost saving initiatives.

  • Participate in EH&S and Quality initiatives.

  • Ability to operate material handling equipment such as platform trucks forklifts aerial work platforms pallet jacks overhead hoist etc.

  • Able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required which may include respirators gloves chemical resistance aprons and chemical resistant suits.
