Voyis designs and manufactures high performance underwater optical sensors (lasers cameras lights) for underwater vehicles that expand capability and enhance understanding in underwater surveys and exploration. Our products have enabled our customers to survey more than 10000km of ocean floor across all 7 continents helping people better understand those remote challenging environments. What youll do:

The role is part time (24 hours a week) on a 1-year contract at our headquarters in Waterloo Ontario. Based on the nature of this role this is a in-person role.

As an Operations Technician you will assist in coordinating our new facility build-out. You will manage the day-today activities in outfitting of the space sourcing all necessary equipment tooling and furniture coordinating with contractors installing new equipment etc. Your hands-on fabrication skills will be essential for fabricating tooling and creating custom fixtures. This position also includes responsibility for the ongoing maintenance and repair of equipment and ensuring our facilities comply with all Joint Health & Safety Committee standards.

Core responsibilities include:

Manufacturing Technician (60%)

  • Production & Test Station Setup: Help commission new production and test stations ensuring proper connections and functionality of all equipment before it goes live.
  • Equipment Maintenance & Repair: Perform preventative maintenance diagnose issues and execute repairs on diverse equipment like 3D printers pressure tanks and test pools across both new and existing facilities.
  • Light Machining & Fabrication: Conduct light machining (e.g. drilling grinding) and fabrication to create custom parts fixtures and structures required for the facility build-out and ongoing operational needs.

Operations (40%)

  • Space Planning & Expansion: Assist with the design and execute the layout for our new production and office areas.
  • Coordinate the relocation of existing equipment and lead the build-out of the new space.
  • Facility Outfitting: Manage sourcing procurement and installation of all assets for the new facility. This includes identifying needs and purchasing all tooling custom fixtures workbenches utility systems and office furniture.
  • Facility & Contractor Coordination: Act as a liaison with external contractors and building management for the expansion project infrastructure repairs renovations and ongoing system maintenance.
  • Safety & Compliance: Participate in safety initiatives and implement solutions to issues flagged by the Joint Health & Safety Committee ensuring our new and existing spaces meet all safety standards.

Skills you will bring to the table:

  • Technical Degree/Diploma in facility management trades electrical systems electronics robotics control systems or equivalent experience.
  • Experience managing projects involving facility expansions space planning and equipment relocation.
  • Experience setting up and commissioning new production lines test stations and utility systems Ability to source negotiate with and manage vendors and contractors for purchasing equipment furniture and services.
  • Ability to assist with facility layout design and execute build-outs for production and office environments.
  • Hands-on proficiency in equipment maintenance and repair as well as practical skills in using hand tools.
  • A positive attitude where you continuously strive for improvement and can succeed without all the answers.
  • Adaptable to a flexible work schedule.

Bonus Points for:

  • Certifications in Trades Maintenance or Safety.
  • Experience with PCBAs handling ESD-sensitive materials knowledge of IPC-620/610.
  • Experience handling assembling testing optical components.
  • Six sigma belt designation.
  • Experience in or a passion for the underwater world or robotics.
