Job Description:
The Air Defense Ground Equipment Mechanical Design Department is responsible for the mechanical design development and integration of platform systems. This includes radar and communications shelter systems electronic subsystems launchers hardware integration and interconnects.
We are seeking a motivated and driven Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Ground Equipment Design Team. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise and hands-on experience in mechanical hardware design system integration program execution and production support.
Role is an On-Site role in Tewksbury or Andover MA
Key Responsibilities:
Lead execution of major programs within the department including shelter mechanical design electronic equipment integration end-item development vendor coordination and the integration of power and cooling systems. Support ongoing sustainment of existing product lines.
Support and lead cross-functional engineering teams delivering solutions and services across all phases of the program lifecycle. This may include development of next-generation sensing technologies enhancements to current products transition to production in-field upgrades and vendor oversight.
Lead and contribute to proposal efforts and Estimate at Completion (EAC) activities providing strategic and technical input.
Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) across multiple programs providing critical and timely support to ensure successful execution and delivery.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Serve as a technical liaison to programs and Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) ensuring alignment across stakeholders.
Oversee the technical performance of the design team providing engineering guidance and project support throughout the entire product lifecycle.
Support and lead Technical Data Package (TDP) development and conduct/oversee thorough peer reviews.
Drive Hardware Engineering organization initiatives aimed at improving team productivity technical execution and overall efficiency.
Lead mid- to large-sized cross-functional engineering teams as the technical execution lead across all development phasesfrom proposal generation and program start-up through requirements allocation preliminary and detailed design and into first article production.
Perform complex mechanical design development and documentation of components subassemblies and major end items for defense system applications ensuring compliance with system requirements.
Provide product integration support for both domestic and international factories and suppliers.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams non-technical stakeholders and suppliers to develop robust design solutions and resolve technical challenges in support of production and delivery milestones.
Manage and meet schedule cost and technical performance commitments for assigned tasks and projects.
Apply deep knowledge of hardware engineering best practices to ensure technical excellence. The ability to partner effectively with Chief Engineers and technical leads is essential.
Required Qualifications:
12 years of experience in a Mechanical Engineering role including a minimum of 8 years focused on the design and development of mechanical equipmentpreferably in military or defense environments.
Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams with accountability for cost schedule and technical performance along with project management experience in both budgeting and scheduling.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment working across multiple engineering disciplines as well as with Operations Supply Chain Quality IPT leadership Program Management and customers.
Hands-on mechanical design experience including:
Performing trade studies
Developing concepts through detailed design
Supporting transition to production
Providing ongoing production and supplier support
Experience in executing Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) analyses driving cost reduction initiatives and producing engineering white papers or technical documentation.
Broad expertise in mechanical design development material selection and manufacturing processes with proficiency in CAD tools and associated Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
Desired Qualifications:
Master of Science (MS) in Mechanical Engineering.
Excellent communication technical writing presentation and interpersonal skills.
Working knowledge of military and commercial specifications and standards.
Hands-on experience in the design fabrication and integration of:
Electronic assemblies
Shelter assemblies
Power distribution equipment
Rack-mounted systems
Interconnects Cables and Harness systems
Familiarity with Agile product development methodologies.
Strong analytical and advanced problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word Excel PowerPoint and Project.
Experience with modern manufacturing systems and processes.
Background in reliability engineering and failure analysis.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and achieve results with minimal conflict while maintaining schedule and budget adherence.
Recognized team player and self-motivated leader with strong collaboration skills.
Proven team leadership experience including leading multi-disciplinary technical teams and the ability to develop empower motivate and monitor performance.
Demonstrated capability to develop technical solutions to complex system requirements.
Experience managing engineering budgets using Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and the Estimate at Completion (EAC) process.
Prior experience leading or contributing to proposal development.
Familiarity with Risk and Opportunity Management practices.
Education Required:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline (required).
Advanced degree preferred.
Security Clearance Requirement:
U.S. Citizenship is required.
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance.

The salary range for this role is 124000 USD - 250000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
