Position Title:Policy Analyst

Salary:$75000

Position Description:The Governors Office of Policy and Research is seeking aPolicy Analyst to support a policy portfolio of a range of issues including housing home and auto insurance and transportation providing policy and legislative analysis and recommendations with supervisory support from a senior member of the policy team overseeing these issue areas. The Policy Analyst also will assist with policy coordination among the broader policy office. The analyst reports to the Director of Policy and Research.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:The analyst maintains policy expertise develops strategies and is prepared to brief and advise the Governor and other administration officials concerning all the issue areas in their portfolio. The analyst will coordinate this work as needed with other policy advisors other offices of the Governor (communications budget legal etc.) and appropriate state agencies. The policy analyst will work closely with the Governors legislative team to help advance the Governors agenda during legislative sessions. Analysts must have the ability to identify and assess the role of specific policy initiatives and goals in the context of a broad agenda. They also work with key stakeholders and constituencies throughout the state to inform this work. This varies from time to time and may entail travel within the State.

They are detail-oriented analytical thinkers with well-developed decision-making research analytical and project management skills. They also have strong written and verbal communication skills advanced interpersonal skills the ability to learn quickly and the ability to influence and persuade to affect solutions to complex problems. A well-developed familiarity with Colorado policy issues the Governors priorities and state demographics is an asset.

Additional competencies should include the ability to synthesize complex information and research into concise relevant logical and organized formats for analysis and discussion as well as the ability to identify and resolve or minimize potential conflicts in goals and objectives missions and agendas. The ability to work effectively in teams a good sense of humor and a positive attitude all are important.

Education/Experience:

• Two years work related experience andBachelors Degree in relevant fields helpful.

• Public policy analysis and development skills as demonstrated by professional and/or academic experience.

• Experience working on policy areas in the relevant portfolio or related issues specifically in the areas of housing insurance and transportation.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Familiarity with governmental and legislative processes.

• A high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.

• Ability to identify and assess the role of specific policy initiatives and goals in the context of a broad agenda.

• Strong organizational and communication skills.

• Demonstrated adherence to deadlines while adapting to incoming priority changes.
