Job Description
The CBESS Grant at the University of Nevada Reno is recruiting for a Spanish-English bilingual Graduate Assistant for the spring 2026 semester (through 1/30/28). Student will be working 10-20 hours a week (dependent on contract) on a STEM project titled Community of Bilingual English Spanish Speakers- Exploring issues in Science and Health (CBESS) funded by The National Institutes of Health (NIH). This Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) aims to increase the number of linguistically diverse Northern Nevada K-12 high school students pursuing careers in STEM-healthcare contexts.
A highly motivated graduate student will assist with contacting CBESS students and their parents via email telephone and/or text to engage in interviews about the CBESS program along with conducting school visits with the program coordinator to recruit participants. The individual will support the coordinator in updating recruitment materials participant data tracking and program implementation of events. As appropriate the individual will complete ethical research training and help conduct semi-structured interviews with parents of CBESS students whose preferred language is Spanish and translate research instruments and data between Spanish and English. This position will be housed in the Latino Research Center and is a partnership between the center and the School of Medicine. On occasion the GA may be asked to conduct some work-related activities (i.e. contacting students and parents hosting events) in the evening and on weekends from home.
Job Responsibilities
Support program participant recruitment through school site visits
Support the program coordinator with program implementation such as event bookings agendas and event purchases for hosting and supplies/materials
Lead marketing and communications by updating materials communicating with stakeholders and posting on social media as guided by the program coordinator
Support the team in program evaluation data collection and reporting
Support research endeavors such as conference proposals presentations and publications (with guided mentorship from the team)
Attend all team meetings as appropriate
Required Qualifications
Be currently enrolled in graduate degree program at the University of Nevada Reno.
Fluent in speaking and writing Spanish
Fluent in speaking and writing English
Comfort communicating with individuals with limited ability to speak English
Ability to set up and record Zoom meetings send calendar invitations and support program administrative tasks
